rear brake hubs

Your local auto parts store probably has a puller that they loan out which will do the job. I have been successful using them. Also the parts venders sell various pullers for that purpose.

get the right puller. I have one that is a copy of a KR Wilson. it pulls from the snout of the hub. one that pulls from the lug nuts could bend the drum

First step is to make sure the brake adjusters are backed all the way off enough that you have no drag sound when you spin the drum/wheel. Also no tension on the emergency brake. Then the puller, not before.

I got the hub puller that Mitchell makes. It will work on either style hub.

This puller works great. You can get them for around $50 at some of the Model A vendors. I know Bert's in Denver caries them for about that price.

I suppose the additional comment is that this puller works for a Model A Ford. Is this the rig you are talking about?

Maybe you don't need a puller. Jack up the opposite wheel and reverse the axel nut and give it a shot with a BFH( big f#@king hammer) this works sometimes. don't go nuts (no pun) with hittin it if it doesn't come loose a puller might be needed. Heed all the other advise though

I've had a lot of success with a three jaw puller wrapped with some duct tape. Not necessarily the proper way, but it's worked for me every time.

i use this puller set on :
diff bearings
trans bearings
rear hub puller
strg worm gear puller
and a multitude of other things
not shown is a smaller colette, different length threaded rods for shorter or longer reach..

one tool does it all

HF sells them and other places,

this set is snapon the whole kit is pricey but it lasts a lifetime plus it is guaranteed for life...

everything is heavy iron....
you get what you pay for..
i can also post the other accys i have tomorrow if interested....
i have adapters long enough to pull an axle bearing off a later model car

you can also use the collette in a press to put things back together

i probably have a good 800 or so into the set

i am not a fan of beating on an axle

Thanks. I think it would be much safer then my three jaw method, though I never put too much tension on it, in case it decides to pop loose even with the duct tape.
