Rear Axle Fluid Level

Is there an easy way to check the fluid level in the rear axle? I have the 600W gear oil, not sure how to get it in?

Thanks,
Jim

They have small, cheap funnels with flexible necks.
I filled mine until it started coming out the filler hole.

The adjustable wrench in the tool kit has a square end that fits the square recess in the plug on the housing, the one on the bottom is for draining, the one on the back is the fill, fill it to the level of the hole, depending on the temperature the oil can be poured or if very cold it seems like you can use a fork-----much depends on what you have, if it is in a squeeze bottle put the nozzle in the hole and squeeze, my oil is in a 5gal pail, I have poured some into a cleaned can, once lacking anything better I formed some heavy paper into a "U" and made a trough stuck in the hole, poured from the can into the trough --at the shop I have an old gear oil pump with a crank, stick the hose in the rear and crank away till filled to the level of the fill hole.

actually my car has bad seals in the torque tube (and at axles), I fill the trans and drain the rear, the trans oil migrates slowly into the rear

Warming 600W/680W differential/transmission/steering sector lubricant (place the bottle - if that's what you have - of lubricant in a pan or bucket of hot - but not boiling or scalding - water for about 15 minutes) reduces the viscosity and makes it easier to use when refilling. The steering sector and transmission are pretty straightforward (I fill the latter to the top of the fill hole) albeit the transmission can be awkward to get to absent removing the floorboard. For the differential, I use a metal street ell pipe fitting in place of the fill plug when filling.

If the rear is overfilled check the trans-----on my car the trans level goes down as the rear fills up, my rear has never been apart, the seals are bad,the seals in the rear hubs are working good--nothing gets on the brakes, but if the trans is a cup low the rear is a cup overfull on my car ----check the trans on your car
