Radiator Flush??

After I cleaned my system with pool strength Muriatic Acid %20 and water %80, I rinsed several times till the flush was clear. Then I mixed a solution of Phosphoric acid and water (ospho) 10-20% and DI water and let it set over night to treat the block. I then drained that and used DI water and a common rust inhibiter/antifreeze mix and my coolant has stayed clear, minus the WP lube......

I am planning on a vinigar flush. Is the radiator petcock the reccomended way to drain or do you need to remove the lower hose, or anything else?

I used vinegar, drained it after several days (with the petcock) and flushed about 6 times before getting anything close to clear water.

Vinegar is valuable tool in our shop. I used it to clean a dirty gas tank then filtered it into a couple of 5 gal buckets into which I now throw small rusty parts after de-greasing and in a few days they come out nearly rust free. It's cheap and no worry about disposal.

So removing the lower hose really isn't required, I just used to always do it on my 1960's cars when I flushed them. The petcock is all you need to use?

You can do whatever YOU want. If cooling system is clean, use the petcock. If you think system may be plugged or you wish to flush it out remove the hose. Whatever rings your bell.

I wasted a lot of time with cleaners and flushes. If you are overheating and the radiator takes longer than 4 seconds to empty (see one of older posts on this) bite the bullet and have the radiator roded out. Its a pain to remove the hoses, hood, radiator, everything, and then align everything back up - I hated to do it - but flushing just won't get it if you have overheating issues.

Yes! White Vinegar works on rust because I used it on my fuel tank when first purchased. The final flush was electrolysis, because I was inpatient. I now run of my tank with filters but getting better now, but don't be afraid of vinegar.

I hope that the comments about Muriatic Acid and Drano as radiator flush were in jest.

Drano is aluminum and pure lye, Muriatic Acid is an old phrase for HCL or hydrochloric acid. One a strong base and the other a strong acid.

Come on folks!

Vinegar is a good choice at 5 % acid.

I have a huge mouse nest made from seat stuffing in the radiator. Nearest radiator shop is 70 miles from me. how do I proceed?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

I assume the nest is in the top of the radiator. I would remove the radiator and backflush it with it upside down. Take the lower hose to the hardware store and get some fittings so you can hook up a hose bib to use with your garden hose. While you are there get some fittings for the top hose then you can back flush the block. You will need a short piece of hose with a female fitting on both ends.
