Quickie Side "Curtains"

I'm off to GG Charlotte tomorrow and although the weather looks to be "not wet" I do believe it will be a bit nippy. So, I made up some side curtains that will keep out most of the cold air that might come in. Coupled with my heater we should be toasty enough.

There's a magnetic strip on the front verticle piece behind the door glued to the lexan and the black edges are 65-66 Mustang edges covering from where the rear body panels meet on that vehicle. They provide a "clean edge" to then "push in" the curtains and stay stationary - a press fit sort-to-speak. The cabin will not be anywhere near air tight so I do not expect too much air to force the curtains to push out. Regardless, we'll see how things go ....

Well, my side durtains didn't work so well on the way down but I did a fix for the trip home. Seems there was too much interior "push" and the curtains wanted to push out along the bottom. If that was OK, they pushed out along the top. My buddy Earl was able to battle the pass curtain on the way down so we at least had one of them in. Fortunately we left around 6:30 AM so it warmed up sufficiently by 9 or so. The little heater I have installed was ever so good to have!!

On the way back we put in a temp fix by running stick on gasket along the tops of the doors to prevent the bottom from pushing out. Again, the pass side was great but the driver side then wanted to kick out at the top. So, I cut a strip from some rags I had in the trunk, lifted the edging I had on the lexan and put in a little looped pull strap so I could hold the top of my curtain in. We were toasty all the way home! Ha, I was a strap-hanger all the way home - subway riders should know the term strap hangers ...

As for the show, it was a great time and the car ran really well - 24-2500 RPM (65-70 mph) with only a little oil needed in the fan hub on the way down. She used a little oil, about 1/8 of a qt, but ran like clockwork. I hung out with the Iron Lords of Concord, NC - their shop is killer, their cars homegrown works of art, met a couple guys I hadn't seen form NY in almost 20 years (transplants like myself), and the Iron Lords couldn't have been more generous in their welcome. I had some "pinstriping" done while there and the car was really well received by all.

My last visit to GG Charlotte was about 9 years ago - GG Charlotte is defintely on my yearly event list again!

Tom, sounds like you had a good time and were able to overcome the problem... I guess it's not curtains for you after all... lol. Think you'll be able to make it to FL for the Barner's Bash in Feb. or March of 2011?

Vic

Tom, I see you got a lot of press in the Charlotte threads over on the H.A.M.B. Well deserved press - the deuce looks great and it sure looked like you had fun. Save me a parking space next year.

Thanks guys - it was a great trip ....

Lee - you're on!

Vic - with the side curtains holding back the wind and keeping in the warmth I still need to check how they are in the rain. We'll see how things go for FL - I would love to attend as you know, and one way or the other, the 40 or the 32, I'm hoping to be there.

1932Tub - color coded duck tape - would have worked except we'd have to "untape" ourselves every time we stopped!!
