Putting to a vote

There was a Victoria running around California for years with one color of wheel on the driver's side and a different color on the passenger side the owner said he couldn't make up his mind and his wife liked one color and he liked the other. It would be a way getting you out of your quandary. LOL

I vote for "straw" but I'm somewhat biased as my Avatar photo suggests.
As for the person who said that yellow is a strain on the eyes------wash your
mouth out with soap! LOL IMHO :)

I think the cream and white walls clash. Something a little darker.Nice car regardless of what you go with

Have you thought about your fender green ?? But if you're asking an opinion,, I'd certainly go with the cheerleaders..

I have to agree with Steve. The cream almost matches the roof. Too many colors and it will start to look like a clown car. Simple and clean, in my opinion, is better.

Nice car.

I'd say definitely go with the cheerleaders, and don't bother painting the wheels at all. Who's going to look at the wheels with cheerleaders hanging on. For that matter who going to look at the Model A? But if you feel you have to paint, I'd go yellow. Ask the cheerleaders to help.

I did a quick PhotoShop rendition of your photo in a dark green and it looked very good. Classy wheel color that didn't clash and didn't draw attention. My vote is for dark green.

Since you asked, I like the car colors, but of course they're not stock colors. I hate cream wheels with whitewalls--on any car. The whole point of whitewalls is contrast, and there's almost no contrast with cream wheels. I'd mock up black or a darker version of the car's green.

Geo., I agree with your post 100% ... except maybe doing away with the white walls all together. White walls don't look Model A in my opinion; they look odd. They remind me of the fender skirts and curb feelers that a neighbor put on their Chevy when I was a kid. I had an instant dislike.

P.S. The cheerleaders could care less. They are mainly interested in whether or not people are looking at them .... and of course that's exactly what we'll do, even the codgers .... as one old man told me one time, "Who do you think you are, son ...the older the log the hotter the fire!"

Not sure black would look so good; might be tolerable with the WWW tires.

If you were being somewhat true to factory color schemes, you could paint the wheels to match the fenders...

Personally, I like the cream... doesn't bother me with the WWW's; I have a '48 New Yorker with cream wheels, WWW tires and dark navy bue paint... looks pretty sharp.

I think that with cars of this era, the wheels should match / harmonize with another color somewhere on the car.

Just my opinion.

You probably know all this as well as nearly everyone reading the forum but black wheels were the standard from Ford until the deluxe models were introduced and then the wheels on the deluxe models were painted to match the color of the stripe. No white walls!

Of course the dealers often painted the wheels and commercial vehicles could be ordered with almost any color scheme.

P.S. Years ago when I first joined a Model A club, some of the men would nearly get in a fist fight arguing over correct colors... and they weren't kids either, some about 80 years old back then, 1978. I guess all of that has changed.

I am sort of agonizing over "factory correct" ( per the Judging Standards and the Paint and Finish Guide) and what I would "like" on my own '28 Special Coupe...

So far I've only been able to determine "what I don't particularly care for"...

The "all black below the body" is a little too much black for my tastes; I think I know why Ford did it that way ( economy of production ), and I appreciate the "correct" and survivor cars that are done that way, but I don't necessarily care for it...

My car came to me as you see it in the avatar... rattle-can black with red wires and All-State WWW tires.... kind of the 1940's-'50 Hot-Rod look, although there's nothing in the way of high-performance going-on in my Flivver... ;).

I've always liked the Washington Blue / Riviera Blue / Tacoma Cream combo since I first saw it on a '30 or '31 Deluxe Roadster...

My Uncle Mike used to tell me of the A Roadster he had back in the late 1930's... he described it as "Canary Yellow with Orange wire wheels"... sounds like he was talking about "Bronson Yellow" with the orangey-red wheels...

I might do mine up like a '30 Pierce-Arrow I saw at Hershey last fall: Red wheels, black fenders, silver / gray body / black roof... pretty sharp.

The "authentic" '28 Coupe colors just aren't doin' it for me... but then my car is intended to be a driver first and foremost, not a points car.

We'll see... need to look at many, many more cars...

Was surprised to see how many restored/nice '28-'29 A's are wearing non-black wheels...

Why don't you paint each wheel a diff. color?.. that way you can have six of your fav. color's .
Plus it will make your car stand out from the rest.

Dusty-- I have the straw colored wheels on my car, with blackwalls, and I agree, the correct straw color is not a real bright yellow, but it has more color than the cream. I have the chicle and drab color on my care and I happen to like how the straw looks with it, and think it would be a nice combo on your car also........

how about getting them chromed

You might be joking but I would love to that:D I know I would be stoned at our club meetings but I am close to that now:) I would have to put a second morgage on the house though to pull that off. I am going to try a mock up in black, dark green but I have to be honest in that I am leaning toward the straw.
