police interceptor engine

As a result of some trading, I ended up with a two carb intake. The carbs are spaced so the generator bolts in the stock location. The carbs are spaced so the original air filter fits the carbs. The carbs face rearward. The intake bolt pattern is an early pattern. The is no identification on the intake.

A friend said he thinks it is a factory interceptor intake. I remember reading in the 50s of a factory two carb intake but have never seen one. Could this be the one?

yea this intake was exclusive to the 1943 Ford Police interceptor. These were a very limited Police only model.I purchased one right after the war to make a hot rod out of , only I raised the rear up so high to fit bigger tires under the rear fenders that I fell off the front seat & wrecked it .It also came with the factory 4 speed crash gearbox.
A real "Wolf in sheeps clothing " Mine also had the optional 2 speed speedometer& 45ep dashmounted record player.
That was some kinda intake !!! but had a problem with the legendary "Vapour lock" ( I had that problem also one time & found the cause of my vapour lock was farts do have lumps in them !)
Have a great weekend !!!
Cheers
Tony

There were several dozen manufacturers of performance related intake manifolds back in the day and many have some way to ID them at least to the maker but some don't. To the best of my knowledge, FoMoCo didn't make any for L-head engines. The three bolt design would fit Strombergs or Holley/Chandler Groves carbs. Four bolt designs would be for something else.

Pics are a must.

Shouldn't have any problem with two good 97's. Don't screw around trying to squeeze the jets. It will work fine if the carbs are foundemently sound. I have a similiar setup on my relatively stock AB motor. I use 48's and it works fine contrary to what some of the experts say. generally speaking 48's are a bigger problem than 97's...
