points

Cleaned up the distributor last night, replaced all worn and nasty looking hardware as well as the bottom plate.

Unfortunately I also found the points like to ride down and hang slightly lower then they should on the ground contract. It looks like the pin that holds the points is tilted and not square to the top plate.

I assume the only repair is to replace the top plate? can I cheat in the mean time with a washer to raise them on the pin some?

Thanks,

Chris J.

Use needle nose pliers and adjust the pin or arm until the points close level and parallel. A fiber washer may also work.

I was thinking of doing that last night but was afraid I might crack the fiber base the pin is mounted to?

Try it gently if not too far out of line. if you were planning to replace the part anyway it might save you the expense. Use the washer under the points otherwise.
