hello,
Im looking to upgrade my 55 Fairlane ignition using Petronix.
Can someone who has done this give me the exact part number that will do the job? Which OHM rating should I get for the Flame Thrower coil?
mANY tHANKS....

Call Pertronix. They will give you the right information, including the correct coil #. I hear they have a good tech line.

I'll second their Tech Help Line. Had an issue with the conversion in my '56, and they straighten me out. Yes, I know my issue was on the 12 volt unit, but I'm sure they can not only recommend the correct 6 volt unit for your '55, but also the corresponding coil that goes with it.

I had a pertronix unit on my 6-volt '55 Ford Y-block years ago, but it didn't last very long. I think heat got to it. I took it out, threw it away and put my points and condenser back in.
The pertronix unit that was available back then called for the original ignition coil.
I cut a piece of masonite and mounted it on a factory hole on the firewall to do the ignition wire splice. When I switched back to points and condenser, I just left that masonite mounting block there, and put a duplicate of original wire terminal on the ignition wire.
Man, am I tired of this substandard chinese junk they are selling for replacement parts and upgrades. Their ignition condensers are not much better. If you get one that actually works, keep it until it quits.

Along with everything else, it's important to confirm the car still has its original distributor, in case a previous owner changed it.
Ford changed the internal parts of the distributor for '57 and the Pertronix parts aren't interchangeable.
