Persistent Fuel Leak - Sediment Bowl Inlet

Went through the stash of parts from my second flathead. Found another fitting similar to the one posted, but this one has NPT at the other end! Problem solved assuming the 45 degree or whatever that angle is seals against the hsg. I’ll get a hose barb fitting and attach it, and run hose to the filter.

Are you sure about the inlet being "1/2-20"? That sounds like NPT and seems a bit large for a fuel fitting. Pipe sizes are the inside diameter of the pipe, while tubing sizes are outside diameter; quite a difference.

I think I may have a problem with communication here.

I over complicate things, so that’s probably the issue. lol! I had a look at the Vintage Speed catalogue and he has a bunch of barb fittings that are listed as 1/2” - 20. He then lists other barb fittings as NPT. My threads are straight and not NPT.

The ones with straight threads still need the tapered seat in the bottom of the hole.

Also, those all look to be for going to plain rubber hose, not steel line.

I had forgotten that Ford sometimes used regular bolt sizes for some vacuum and fuel line fittings. I have Navarro "Universal" dual manifold that drove me crazy trying to find a plug for the wiper vacuum fitting. Turned out it was a 7/16"-14.

Carry on.

Agree. The brass fitting I scavenged from the other fuel pump assy is tapered and I have to assume it has the correct taper. I’m swapping to a rubber fuel hose.

Picked up some 1/4” fuel hose and a 1/4” NPT to 1/4” hose barb fitting. All installed. Used the Permatex thread sealant on the brass pipe threads, but none on the flare fitting end going into the hsg. Will see if the tapered surface seals soon enough. Hopefully, I can knock this off my checklist.

Well, my Ford fuel fitting saga continues. First the good news. The fitting(s) with hose barb solved the leak at the sediment bowl inlet.
After doing some cranking of the engine as part of my pre-start check, noticed a new leak at the carb inlet. Tried a new ferrule and new nut, and still leaked. Just like at the sediment bowl. Checking the carb from my second flathead, I noticed it had some sort of brass adapter fitting with a gasket. Removed it and installed it on my carb. Installed the same new ferrule and nut into that adapter fitting. It leaked a bit at first during more engine cranking, but stopped leaking after giving the nut another 1/4 turn. So, second leak now fixed. During further cranking, then noticed it was leaking at the fuel pump outlet!
This is beyond crazy! Not sure how to proceed. Looking at the inlet ports to the two carbs I have (one is just the upper half, and the extra fuel pump assembly, there seens to be a difference in the seat area of the second complete carb. It seems to have a “full” 45 degree tapered surface where as the other two have a flat surface with a taper “spot-faced” onto the flat surface. Hard to tell fro the pics though.

Fitting in carb from second flathead.

Same fitting installed on my engine/carb.

Seat area (full 45 degree taper) in second spare carb (not the carb from my second flathead).

Did not yet remove fuel line and fitting from fuel pump outlet to see what the seat area looks like. Will do that tomorrow.

I like to have something made of steel, not pot metal that had the Ford nut/ferrel thing so I could really tighten it down to squish the ferrel onto the tube and not risk stripping threads. Model A zenith carb or iron sediment bowl.
