parts and ebay

I have been selling on e-bay for 8 years and have bought a couple of things also. Over that time I have only had 2 problematic buyers and have only been dissapointed with my purchase once. I have had few complaints and have resolved them without interferance fom e-bay. My bad purchase was the fault of a mislisted item with poor pictures. So far I have been unable to resell it to reccoop atleast some of my money. The seller refused to make it right. This sort of seller makes all sellers look bad. Rod

Yes Vince, you are right. I jumped the gun, sounded like the old bait and switch deal that I was involved in a while ago. I am sorry. It left me with bad feelings about E-bay and their process. I still look, but have not bought anything for quite a while.

I have bought and sold a lot on EBay. I tell people they can return anything I sell. If I have made a mistake or they feel for any reason the part is not as they expected, I will pay shipping both ways. If the part is discribed correctly but the buyer decides he does not need the part, he can return it but he has to pay the shipping. In over apx 400 sales, I have yet to have one return. (I have sold the old car stuff for the families of several friends who had passed away).

I have had very few parts that I have bought that were not as described. I recently bought a "NOS Ford Voltage Regulator" but it turned out to be a used part in a new box. The seller had bought out an old dealer stock. The seller told me to keep the part and refunded all my money including shipping.

Most of the time, the part goes for more then I want to pay. I have picked up some very hard to find stuff and every so often find some real bargins.

I guess I have been lucky.

Years ago, I did however get one negative from a guy who got into a bidding contest with two other bidders and thought he paid too much for a part. It was a very rare Fuel Injection part for a 57 Corvette. The second bidder was not happy because he really wanted it and figured he had bid enough only to be out bid at the last second. He said he should had bid more. Go figure. This was the only Negative feed back I have gotten.

I still take money orders or what ever is easiest for the bidder. The payment just has to clear before shipping. E-bay wants the money for PayPal not necessarily the sellers. You just have to ask.

Same here, I find just about all the old car guys are GREAT to deal with.

How much was the shipping? How did you pay? Is it covered by ebay buyer protection? Did you you file a dispute.

You are into it for $103 plus shipping, Lets say 15.00 shipping. You spent $118.00 for something you have no use. If you pay the shipping you're only out $30.00, the cost of a couple of Starbucks coffees.

I'd rather be out $30.00 than $118.00.

I have bought from woody255a and was very happy with my parts. Contact him and discuss your problem. It could have been a very honest mistake.

Some folks have been burned by eBay's PayPal and prefer to avoid it. I have spoken to sellers at swap meets that say they will never list on eBay again. I like eBay myself and have paid many times with money orders. I see more in one week on eBay that I see in a year of swap meets. I also see some unusual things that I have never seen at a swap meet.

Nothing like going to sleep and waking up with money in your PayPal account from some one on the other side of the world. I often wonder about the love of this hobby Australians have, the postage must add quite a bit to their restorations.

Re: parts and eBay

As a frequent eBay buyer and sometimes seller I love Pay Pal. When I have been burned with a fraudulent item Pay Pal always got my money back for me.

Why dont you jsut resell the item now that you know what it is? It is worth more then $103. He did list it wrong, but you also did not know what you were looking at. The sellar and the buyer both were lacking in knowledge of the part that was sold. Just my 2 cents. The item you bought is worth FAR more then $103. I have sold several for $250

Postal money orders can be checked to see if they were cashed and where.

Also, it's probably a federal mail fraud offense to cash the check and say you didn't get it.

I bought a kingpin reamer on ebay. It turned out that the seller had "cleaned it up" with a coarse wire wheel and destroyed all the cutting edges. Granted, I think he was selling stuff from his late dad's garage and didn't know what it was. I spoke with him about it and he refunded the purchase price less the shipping, which I was OK with.

Then there's the guy who bought a rare speaker from me. Pictures showed the tears in the cone. Text says that it needed to be reconed. When he gets it, he says it's in unusable condition (he also mentions in a separate email that his friend re-coned it, so so much for getting your story straight!). Item says "not returnable". Now he wants his money back. If what I sold wasn't what I described, I would have refunded his money, but he got exactly what was described in the condition it was described.

Thank you now I some one that feels the way I do about e bay. I tryed to buy things on e-bay and when you win the bid the guy refuses you bid. He said it's because I did'nt have a high score recored. But one thing how you going to get a score if nobody will sell to you. I know the guys name for e-bay and I make DAM shure I don't buy from him. He has his own little group let him have his little group

I too have had very good luck on eBay, I agree it is a valuable tool for the hobby. In the end it comes down to the buyer knowing what he is looking for and knowing exactly what it looks like.
