parts and ebay

I too have had very good luck on eBay, I agree it is a valuable tool for the hobby. In the end it comes down to the buyer knowing what he is looking for and knowing exactly what it looks like.

caveat emptor...where ebay, or any other such transaction, is concerned...loosey translated means cover your ash:)!
I've learned ONE thing, for sure, about ebay, i.e.- there is remedy provided you are savy enough to follow thru in the time frame provided!
I've learned another thing, for sure, IN LIFE, that there two sides to every situation...and most times more than two!
So, if you're gonna pass judgement (throw stones as buyer/seller/bystander), you've got to get the FACTS of the matter first...'just the facts mam'!

Hardtimes, since you quoted me I will assume you find fault in my post. Nowhere did I " throw stones at the buyer". Just stating facts, if you don't know what you need or what it looks like, and still make a purchase, there is no one to blame but yourself. Stop being self righteous and trying to read between the lines. I will always say what I mean, no need to try to analyze my opinion.

I will add the buyer is the one to publicly bash the seller, any bashing of the seller is also brought on himself by all who read his post. He was asking opinions, by posting as he did. Get off the playground if the truth hurts.

Steve,
Nope, just the opposite is true! I think that what you had to contribute was 'right on'. Hmm, wasn't even thinking of you/your words when I began, except that they rang true..
Just goes to prove once again, what an instructor said, i.e.- never ASSUME anything!

Ok, you got me! My appologize for doing to you what I thought you were doing to me. I knew when I used that word it would bite me in the ars......

Actually a funny thing, I learned long ago, before the web and the technology, when you inquired about a no picture add, called a long distance number to purchase something you had not seen and believed the seller knew what he was selling. I have 3 sets of 30-31 standard top irons when I was told I was buying 28-29.....

I was searching the 28-29 Model A section of ebay and came across a listing for a 28 chevyhead that is supposed to be a hopup for a model T. Ebay doesn't totally suck does it? Or maybe it does...

I always have called it the worlds junk yard.

Actually I've heard of 28 Chevy heads being used for Ford overhead conversions. Seems like a lot of work for the gain, but it's been done.

I am a prolific buyer and seller on Ebay and have bought from this EBAY vendor on numerous occasions. He has always been prompt with delivery, and everything that I have acquired from him has been as advertised.

I would contact him as others have mentioned.

I have bought parts from wood255a and never had one promblem and if my memory serves me right I seen it when it was listed and yes it was listed wrong however it did have a picture of it and it was for SW 4door not a Victoria, it use to be on ebay that you could see who the bidders are and send them an email an let them know what they where bidding on was listed wrong but not anymore.

jw hash:On the ebay posting there is a place on the right hand side where you can ask the seller a question. When I've done so I've always received an answer back.

Tinker,
Yeah, '28 chev was last year for their four cyl head. The use of the head is a well known improvement hp maker for the model a/b block. Reason? Well, chev had OHV head setups long before ford. Yup, they take some figuring to mount on a model a/b...but google Neal Jern Thunderbolt. He has made it easy with a kit that he perfected for this purpose using the chev 4 cyl OHV head. Soo, not junkyard as to that:)!
BTW..this kit is a heck of a lot cheaper than starting with other OHV heads($4/5K)

I second the caveat emptor. The only protection you have on ebay is while using paypal. If you return the item and file a claim that the seller mis-represented the item, you will get your money back from paypal. If you use money orders, you are SOL. I've only had to do it twice, once on model a parts and once for seeds. I'm still waiting on the dead seed issue as 30 days have not passed yet. Don't wait more than 45 days or all protection is off!

If you think ebay cares about buyers not paying, think again. If you get a deadbeat buyer, ebay will tell you to re-list. Some consolation over a $1,000 item a deadbeat wouldn't pay for! I re-listed and eventually sold it.

Even if you win an item, the seller can refuse to sell it to you. It happened to me as well. Ebay only cares about collecting fees.

The idea that ebay buying/selling is a legal contract is a farce. In the end though, I've only had one bad experience on several hundred ebay transactions both buying and selling. I've had worse experience dealing with Fordbarn sellers!
