While looking for a new battery,I found that Optima is offering a $25.00 rebate thru the end of May. The best price I found was at autoplicity.com.Their price is $110 and change.Much less than I had found elsewhere. If you purchase one you'll need to download the rebate form from Optima's site. I don't like Optimas in old cars. I also don't think they need to be there in place of a good high duty wet battery. For a while around here, everybody just had to have a 6V Optima. I know where there's about 3-5 failed 6V versions. Interested in one?

I have read the numerous posts re Optimas. Many like them, many don't. I was interested in more cold cranking amps than the group 1s offered. I wasn't trying to change personal preferance with my post, only passing along a savings if anyone was considering the purchase of one. Interstate quoted me a "dealer price" of $84.plus my 6% sales tax.The Optima is $101.shipped. I'm happy. Ned in MD

All i know is i had enough with the FORD SCRIPT batteries:mad:. Had 3 so far and never seen 3 years out of anyone of them:(. Picking up a Interstate battery tomorrow afternoon $109.00 and better then $230.00 for a show battery... I want to GO . Not that i am cheap but there is no reason for a Battery at $230.00 and you can't get 3 years out of it.. Anyone else have a problem with the Ford Script batteries not lasting?:confused:??? or just me???? I turned one of the old Ford Script batteries upside down and it has MADE IN ????? looks like someone melted the rubber ..Are they not made here anymore???guess not..

Hello, i recommend you the Optima battery. The car crank everytime. After 4 months without charge, the car fired up. Mine is now 3 years old. If you want a low maintenance battery, this is it. (In fairness, I must say, I have a 6V posGround Alternator)
I wish you sufficient voltage an a good day

My $2 six volt battery is still going strong after more than 7 years using my original generator with my EVR. I bought it from a metal recycling yard over 7 years ago, so I don't know the actual age of the battery. I don't use a battery maintainer and the car sets untouched for 5 to 6 months each winter. I've never had to add water to the battery.

Tom, you ought to buy like 50 of those things! At $2 you could have a monster mark up and still give your fellow A owners a deal! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I didn't mean to stir a pot of Optima vs wet cells. There was a time when Optimas lived up to their name. Somewhere along the line they went south in the reliability dept, but many say they're OK now. I don't like to pet dogs that bit me.

Don't worry, I have had the same luck with them as you. I won't buy another, they went south when they got bought out by a bigger company a few years back.

Wish I could find more like that. That scap metals yard was bought out and they no longer let people in to buy stuff.

With the price increase for scrap metals, I'll get more for the battery (when it dies), than I paid for it.

No acid erosion from optima Batt. is a good reason for buying one,I have one in a 47 dodge dually 1 ton and it sets quite a long time between use ,must be 5 or 6 years old ,I do charge it sometimes ,so problem so far.

Tom , to bad you can not get anymore at $2.00 .......$16.50 for a used dead battery on a trade in. That's what i got today...:D Maybe they thought it was a original ford script battery.....l.o.l.

Here's another interesting tidbit regarding gel cell and deep-cycle battery charging. I read an article last year about how charging like a normal battery will not revive a dead gel cell or deep-cycle. The way to do it is to charge "through" a regular battery by using jumper cables from the wet cell (being charged) to the gel cell or deep cycle. I won't even try to explain the science of it, but it works. I have a deep-cycle battery in my trailer and even a slow trickle charge doesn't last as long as when I jump it through another during a trickle. Gotta love science...

As HIGHLANDER said, here is Optima on what must be done for a "DEAD" OPTIMA battery. You just cannot hook up a regular charger to bring it back to life but yuo CAN work through a goot battery.

I've had a Optima 6V battery in my 30 tudor for 5 years now and it turns the engine over the same as when I hooked it up.I take the floor plate up once a year to make sure all is well and that's it.:D

Always Ask the "Tow Guy"??????????? !!!!!!!!!!!! Interstate best in EVERYTHING! There is a difference. Car quest brand batteries keeps our service truck busy! Jeep Grand Cherokee's and International Trucks keep the tow trucks busy too!

A model A is too old to know that it can't charge a dead Optima, I left the ignition on for 3 months---the battery was dead,. it was 8 years old at the time, I found out when I went to start the car --late for a show, put my 3 amp trickle charger on it for 5 min, hand cranked it, 20 min later at the show it would start the car, drove 30 min on the way home and parked the car,now the battery is 14 years old, still cranks like the car is 12V.

I also had 2 "script" batterys that barely made 3 years, 1 used battery5 years, and 7,9 years from the other batterys ---never used a tender, I don't know what I will get when the Optima dies ----maybe I will cut a 12V in 1/2, i have taken the large Benz batterys that have damage on 1 end and made them into a 6V battery

Many of the newer chargers won't charge a "dead" battery --they need to see a voltage and sense that the polarity is correct, some also shut off before the battery is fully charged---probably because of litigation they try to make the chargers idiot proof---resulting in a product that doesn't work well but it won't hurt you.

I agree with Kurt on those newer battery chargers. I bought one at a swap meet without realizing it was one of the new idiot chargers. I don't like it because you can't use it on a dead battery or for a power supply to test a horn, etc.

My brother got stuck with one of those chargers. It took all of 10 minutes to open it up, survey the idiocy circuit, snip snip, and put a jumper across it. Easy fix. Tom, you could probably do it in half that time.

Regarding polarity safe chargers, the better ones have a pos.output lug on top,so you can "trick' them on. After watching a co-worker drag a battery across the shop,I showed him that feature.(Here's yur sign) As far as battery quality,I was shocked that INTERSTATE only offered a 6 month warranty on the group 1 that I had priced. This seems low for the quality they generally promote. Ned in MD
