On-Off Battery Cable 6volt

McMaster's approach to customer service is deplorable. To offer some "**** and bull" story about US export/import legislation is laughable. To politely refuse to disclose the
details of a simple switch is ludicrous beyond belief ! I even suggested that I got a friend in the US to order a part and then send it to me. They said that was against US law !

Who are they kidding? I've bought numerous parts in the past from giant US companies without any issues. How are they to know I'm not the purchasing director of a UK based multi-national supply company ?

Are McMasters based in the Pentagon or just an extension of Walmart, or even Macs.

They need to remember the phrase "from little acorns, giant acorns grow"

You may have found their "weak link'. I have been buying from McMaster for over 20 years for tools, hardware, electrical supplies and stainless steel materials for laboratory constructs and have never had a significant problem with either their service or quality........Bob L

CORRECTION..."from little acorns giant oak trees grow"

Bob I sure did find their weak link....it's called "no matter how insignificant an enquiry may appear to be; treat it like Royalty"

Depends on what type of products they deal with (in addition to the switches). I worked in the defense industry for years and some companies are under very strict import/export laws. If a large part of the business falls under this category they may not want to take a chance on a small item. There are heavy penalties for a violation.

JS.....take a look at their website ? With switches listed at $8.00 each there's not much to suggest that they are unable to sell item to folk in the US ?

Not sure, are we talking about two different companies? I checked out their site and they appear to be a U.S. company to me and I didn't see anything about them not selling to U.S. costumers. What I'm I missing here?

I would think the best approach would be to use a different supplier. Are they the only one that has what you are looking for or are their prices way cheaper? If not, might try a different supplier. If you are located in the UK it might be cheaper to find a local supplier, from what I see online there appears to be a lot of electrical supply places in the UK.

I use a switch similar to the one 47coe shows in his post #9 on my 6V '35 fordor sedan. It breaks the positive side of the battery going to ground. This switch was mounted through the floorpan under the drivers seat by the previous owner. I personally would not have put a hole in a no rust original floorpan. Plently other places that switch could have been mounted that would require no new holes.

When I saw the battery terminals in Tiger's post #4, I thought about the terminals I have pictured below that have levers to tighten or remove the battery terminals, requiring no tools. They seem to clamp well on the battery posts and could easily be removed to break the battery circuit. You could use either 6 or 12 volt size cable with these terminals. Has anyone ever used terminals like these?

That thing doesn't look big enough to have room for any kind of a "meaningful" switch assembly inside it. In fact, it looks downright scary. The price probably says it all. DD

Ted, that version is better but once more defeats the simplicity of the green or black knob variety. If someone got to work and was able to produce a batch of those in solid brass, he'd be inundated with orders.

Green knob types work well if your car starts on one or two turns.
If it is slow to start, it will melt after cranking for a while.
Wal-Mart has a battery terminal with a lever on the side , but you have to look for it in the store.
