Oil tube

Hello. I’m wanting to run a valve cover that doesn’t have the oil bypass tube. I have an A block. The block is not full oil pressurized. Will this create a problem not having the bypass tube on?

IMO, If the tube was not necessary, Henry would have saved the $ and not put it there. I suspect that without it, there would be too much oil in the valve chamber and some of it then being sucked up the inlet valve stems and burned.

For a brief time Ford produced Model A engines without the oil return tube but soon went back to installing valve covers with tubes, probably for the very reason cited by Synchro909 above. The later Model B engine had pressure to the mains and the excess leakage into the valve gallery was drained via holes to the dipper tray.

Here's an engine with no return pipe.

The oil return pipe is a must have to maintain an adequate supply of oil to the dip tray in the oil pan.
