Oil Sending Unit

Does the Oil Sending Unit screw straight into the back of an 59AB Block on a 47 Ford? Or is there an adapter that goes between the black and the unit? Please see photo of my current setup, which has a 45 degree L in the block with a long stem so it's easy to put the wire on the sender.

The problem comes in where I noticed at the block it can not be tightened enough because then the long extension tube would be directly into the firewall.

Thanks
Peter

They screwed straight down into the block, not easy to change, use a crowsfoot wrench. others may have more info..

That would mean that it the sending unit screws into the block sideways and once in place looks very tight because the shift linkage is right there.
Thanks for responding.

they can go into the side hole or the top. Lawson made a wrench for them, looks like this. If you put it into the side hole and there is an arrow embossed into the cover of the sender, point the arrow up when tight.

Attached is a shot of the sender on my 59 in a '41 pickup. JDL is right they are a bear to replace. I had to remove the pedal panel to be able to loosen the old one. I think it could be worse with a column shifter.
