Oil Pressure Sending Unit BO - Hepl

My experience with an 80# sender and original gauge (35-41) ,the gauge reads 1/2 of what it should be and not the other way.

The meters doesn´t know what they are reading...they are the same for fuel/oil and 50/80lbs.
You need to match up the correct sender for what you need.
As you say 80# sender on an old motor read low and sticking a 80# oil pump into an old car with original sender will read high.
Calibrating the meters takes time...they move slow and just a tiny change of the settings are needed....you really need to have them on a workbench with a known good sender to make it work.

I had a 59 A in my 36 coupe with NOS orig gauges. It had a new Melling oil pump corresponding to the yr of the engine .I used a 50 # sender and the gauge read correctly. After a couple yrs I sold the flatty and installed a SBC and retained the 50# sender.Gauge read correctly. If I were "Dads41" I would first change out the sender. To pull that '41 gauge out would not be fun.

deuce lover's got it.........as mentioned in my post the gauge will read low.....that's a
fact. My test to determine if the sender is good or not is to screw it into my test motor
and use a know good gauge. I use an 80# gauge for 80# senders etc etc blah blah blah.

If you want, you could try Kaiser-Willys. The carry A oil pressure switch sending unit -50lbs. I think there's an adapter needed for the threads. Good luck

Do the battery test on the gauge as stated before. 1 cell = 1/2 scale. 2 cells = full scale. if that passes then the sender is bad. A Standard Motor Products PS 60 unit works as a replacement for 50PSI Ford sender. Its cost are your local parts store is about $25.00. The avatar pickup has had one of these in place for the past 6 years. The readings match a mechanical gauge.

If you are checking a gauge with a 1 1/2 volt battery (such as a "D" cell) be sure the gauge is isolated from everything else and just seeing the "D" cell.

Well I have tried everything and the fuel gauge is still unreliable.
Checked tiering, ground tried new and old sensor, changed gauge nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have any information on the Dakota Digital instrument cluster. I am interested in looking at something completely different. Any comments appreciated.
Thank you to all those who posted replies to my original post.
