As other have said, oil pressure is not a thing where "more is better". I had an O/T Corvette engine rebuilt, and the builder installed a hi-pressure, hi-volume pump. It caused all kinds of problems : oil burning, copious smoke on start-up, a constantly pegged guage, and fouled plugs. In the end, the only way to fix it was to remove the "racing" pump and replace it with a standard pump with a standard spring.
A flathead, which is a simpler engine, probably would not have had all of these problems, but too much oil pressure can be a bad thing. Hopefully you can find a way to alleviate the problem without tearing down the engine and replacing the pump like I had to do.
