Oil capacity

Well...I've added a temperature gage, put in a Nu-Rex upper plate with modern points, new distributor cam from Brattons, new plugs, changed the coolant, and changed the oil.

When I put in 4) quarts, I read "F" on the dip stick. I looked in the book and it calls for 5) quarts.

What is the correct answer?

I don't want to overfill it, and cause more problems.

5 quarts fills an empty oil pan. When you drain it after that 1 quart stays in the dipper tray and you put 4 quarts in after that when you change oil.
