Numbers on crossrail 29 roadster

Where are the numbers supposed to be on a 1929 roadster? I have a 29 coupe and the numbers are on the side rail, stamped LA and the numbers. I have read that most are on the rail under the seat riser but I cannot find anything on either one. Were they stamped wherever or is there a usual spot to look for? I have seen posts for other models but cannot find anything on the roadster specifically. Thanks.

I always find the numbers about where the driver's heel would be if he sat with his feet straight down.

Go to my website...then go to Additional Studies...then go to Letters, Numbers and Codes...Hopefully this will help you.

There is nothing specific for Roadsters...the stampings were for all modles.

And not all cars were stamped ... ( did I get that right ? )

Most, if not, all frames were stamped with the engine number BUT yes, NOT all cars, Commercial vehicles and AA Trucks were stamped with the assembly plant codes but a lot were.

Just as the gas tank dates on the May 1928 through September 1929 gas tanks were not stamped with a date BUT most were.

Vanspeed,
Not all cars were stamped with these numbers and there was probably little or no specific direction from Ford where the numbers were to be stamped and the size of the stamps used varied from one plant to another plant. Again, please do not remove any paint just to try and find the number.
I have been collecting these numbers for several years and most of what we know has come from collecting these numbers along with other information from the vehicle such as gas tank date and engine or frame number.
Thanks,
Dave

I don't have to worry about removing paint, there is none left, just surface rust. My tank is 2-22-29, I was hoping this was an original Detroit built car but I cannot verify that until I find the numbers correct? My coupe stampings were pretty deep, guy must have been an ox that stmamped them. Hope I find something. I will be taking the seat riser out soon to fix some parts of it. Maybe I will find a number then.

my #s are as said , right under my feet . SF ........ ca car ............... steve

My body number on a 31 Canadian Roadster was on the side rail.

No letter, so I have been unable to determine the assembly plant.

VanSpeed,
Finding a number is about the only way to tell where the car was assembled short of knowing the complete history of the car. Most of the numbers we have seen are in front of the seat riser, but we have seen very few inside of the seat riser and none that I recall under the seat riser. But then again, not all restorers remove the seat riser.

So, I find a stamping of TC5001 on the cross rail under the seat riser on a '29? roadster. Does that mean Twin Cities assembly plant, does the number denote YOM?

TC means Twin Cities and 5001 is the number of Roadsters built at that plant so far.

Tom,

Respectfully, I do not know about that...for 1929, the TC plant produced 4212 Roadsters as per the Assembly Record Types for 1929.

Could it be the 5001 FORD BUILT vehicle involving Tudors, Phaetons, Coupes Roadsters?

Hmmmmmm.

Dave Sturges...where are you?

Pluck I was basing that on the fact that my 9-27-28 Phaeton has a low body number, but my 2-23-29 Tudor has a body number quite high.

How does your Phaeton number match up with the ART's 363 total Phaetons for TC in 1929?

There were 34514 Tudors for the TC plant in 1929.

My 9-27-28 Phaeton has a body number TC476, and I'm sure there were more built in 1928 than in 1929, so it seems ti jive with Art's total for 1929.

I don't have my 2-23-29 Tudor body number in front of me, but I seem to recall it was well over 10,000.
