NOS Parts

Many vendors, including us, have NOS and NORS parts available from time to time. It’s not typically something that is in large quantities and can come and go in our stocks. We have NOS stuff when we find it…..and there’s no rhyme, reason, or set schedule for when that occurs.

There are two important things to consider when choosing NOS parts. First is that, as we’ve found, those parts may not have the same fit and finish as the original parts used in production. We’ve found that many NOS transmission parts don’t seem to fit like the original ones. I suspect that some parts were made for Ford’s service parts stocks by outside vendors. The tolerances don’t seem to be the same. Just because we acquired the items in old original Ford packaging doesn’t mean that the items were produced in the Ford facilities.

Another thing to note here is that the NOS parts often have been in general storage for years….often in less than ideal environmental conditions. Original packaging is frequently long gone, and the part itself may have some degree of oxidation due to exposure to moisture and other things. In other words, the item may have never been used, but it may need some sort of restoration before installing it.

In addition to what Mac points out, sometimes those NOS parts which were never used ended up not being used for a reason such as being defective or not correct in some way or another, so be careful. Also, Ford made service replacement parts for many years and relied on suppliers to fit the needs and the quality inspections likely dropped off so those nice looking parts might not work quite as well. Just words of caution. I personally love NOS Ford parts and keep looking for them so happy hunting.

As a career woodworker (55 years) We like to say that finally getting that splinter dug out is the 'second best feeling in the world'. So to me that puts installation of NOS parts as third. Others may have different opinions on the matter.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but does anyone have contact info for a man named Berg. I don't know if that is his first or last name, and I think he lives in the north east somewhere. I'm pretty sure he has a '32 3-window. He used to have some NOS and
excellant used parts for sale. I need to talk to him as he may have some hard to find parts
that I need. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
CKH
