here's to fun.. still trying to get fuel feed. put new vavles and bowl seal (cork) have half of tank of gas. pump rod moves like it should. took pump a part no dri rot on dia. line from tank is copper coated steel from 2006. tank was cleaned and seal by a pro in 2006. only thing i can think of flex line on wall is bad causing air leak. any other ideas ???

Try primeing the carb with a little gas sometimes they wont pickup by themselfs. Did you put the valves in the correct way,1 is up and 1 is down and in the correct holes. Also a gasket under each. Also put few drops of motor oil on them when installing them.ken ct.

46,
If your pump is the original style with the small springs under the
inlet and outlet valve wafers it is possible that one or both fiber wafers
are not sealing sufficiently and therefore not generating adequate
vacuum to pull fuel up the line.
When rebuilding a pump the brass seat in the pump bowl must
be remachined absolutely flat. Over time and with a zillion cycle the
seat develops a crown and the fiber wafer even if new will rock.
I hate to say this but the replacement diaphragms available
now are not made to FORDS exacting dimensions especially the spacing
of the slot in the metal post relative to the 'rubber' diaphragm.

Remove the pump leave the tank line still connected. Move pump lever and see if you get fuel that way. The pump push rod could be worn and not moving the lever far enough. My Dad used to carry a lead roofing nail in his tool box in case he had fuel pump problems. He would place it in the pump lever to give more pump lever lift.
Check your fuel lines are not blocked blow down them to check

Flex line can be a problem ,also try and remove a bolt or the two bolts at the base and with the cam at the top work the pump up and down this should bring the gas up

I've also had many probems associated with fuel pump. The reproduction pumps are weak at best even if they do put out 3.5 pounds. Try making a small clear plastic bottle with a wD-40 pipe on it and a air hole and put fuel into float bowl until full. This would be thru the small pipes in the throat area. If the bowl is low or empty, the pump will not suck fuel up as it is not primed and does not have the vacuum required to suck .
My float bowl kept going dry as a result of the power valve gasket not sealing. I also swapped original fuel pump out for a 42-48 version with glass sediment bowl. It seems to work fine now. I think that if the float bowl is low and the pump is not sucking up fuel from the tank, it helps to have this small reservior right there to draw from.

I hope this helps. Let me know: chrisbarrell@shaw.ca

ok... i do have the glass bowl fuel pump on it . did add gas to float bowl never got fuel into pump. then tried just slowly adding to carb as car runs no fuel in glass bowl after 16 oz of fuel was add from glass jar.

Chris I did the same on my truck (38). Worked for a few years then slowly wouldn't prime after sitting for a week. Now it won't prime even with bottle feeding it. I'm really starting to think that ethanol is the issue. Just picked up some non-ethanol gas and will be starting over fresh and see if that is the case.

took line on firewall off clear no clog.so now im thinking fuel pump rebuild may fix this. even filled glass sed bowl with fuel and still nothing.

did you blow air back thru fuel line from flex line to gas tank?...have someone listen at tank fill to hear air in tank....found that problem in a '40, plugged fuel line....one of the first things to try according to books....good luck.....Mike

My flex line did this. I could see a little gas had wept out. I wrapped it with electrical tape on a hunch and once started, has started every since. I have purchased a new line and will replace it.

i blew the line from the flex line back. used my mouth. found nothing. im kinda thinking it just may be the pump or flex line.

Flex line could be collapsing internally causing the line to be closed off. I use new type 5/16 fuel line which is designed for use with the newer fuels. FWIW

Bob Shewman makes fuel hoses with a teflon inner core that is guaranteed for 5 years but will probly last as long as you own the car. He makes 2 styles, one is like the original and the other has a check valve built into the pump end fitting. The check valve keeps the fuel from draining back to the tank. This keeps fuel in the carb line and pump making starting easier after sitting for a while. I have had them on my cars for several years and 6,000 miles with no more flex hose problems. I use flathead teds method to check if the pump is working and also to prime the pump after a removal. Works for me. kc

That is good thinking. I just opened up an old pump that was on the truck and the check valves was goo, no flow. Couldn't get any air through it. Diaphragm was fine.

Ken do you have ethanol friendly check valves?

Gas tank was sealed?
Disconnect the gas line coming from the gas tank at the fuel pump. Connect a mityvac vacuum pump to the line and see if you can get gas out of the tank thru the line.
If not, the gas tank sealer has completely sealed off the perforated intake line inside the gas tank.
