Just wanted to introduce myself and my car. My name is Rick and I recently purchased the car I have wanted since I was a kid, a 1956 Fairlane Victoria. It is the Fordor hardtop version which I haven't seen too many of.
It is a straight rust free Texas car made in Dallas four days before I was born. The car has had a repaint, an engine rebuild and some interior work. Appears to be the original 312 4BBL (currently has a Holley 2BBL with adapter plate).
The car has several minor mechanical problems but nothing that can't be fixed. I'm sure I will have some questions for you guys as time goes on!

Welcome, keep it high and dry in your part of the world, and don't forget to check the anti freeze soon.

'55 was the very first Ford 4-door hardtop and they made rare few that year. By the mid 1960's, every other car on the road was a 4-dr hardtop. Copycats!

I've always believed that '56 was the first year Ford offered the 4 dr. ht.

I would love to see a picture of a '55 Ford 4 dr. hardtop.
If Ford made one, there should be a picture somewhere........

I agree. I'm pretty positive 1956 was the first year for a Ford or Chevy 4 door hardtop.

Thanks for the welcomes (and the anti-freeze reminder)!
I too believe that the 4 dr HT came out in 1956. I had a nice '57 Chevy 4 dr ht a few years back and loved it. But, being a Ford guy when I was a kid, I have always loved old Fords. Hopefully I can get this one to run and drive as well as the Chevy did. Having some problems with the Fordomatic slipping in intermediate. I've tried adjusting the "kick down" lever per the book but it is still slipping. Going to drain and remove the pan and adjust the front band next.

Welcome Rick. Nice car. I also have a 56 Victoria and see we are both from NY. Where are you located in northern NY??

That's a lovely looking car Rick. You will find that the car will drive every bit as good as a Chev of that year.

Ricks56: Beautiful 4-door Victoria--interesting for many reasons, including the extra under-hood bracing not used on any other model. Here's a shot of my '56, which I've had for 25 years. Just turned over 42K miles. 292 & FOM.

A couple of other notes re other comments. There were no '55 4-door hardtops...and JeffB2 is right--I've been digging around in '56 Fords for a long time. Everyone thinks he has a 312, even when the data-plate, a reasonable place to start researching a vehicle, starts with an "M" rather than a "P"...

Well, at least my data plate says it's a 312 ;)

I'll have to check some numbers when I get a chance. The car APPEARS to be mostly original, but who knows what it has been up to in the past 58 years?

NICE Country Squire btw!

Rick, I notice chrome trim on the rocker panel. I like it.. I have seen this before but I am not sure if it is original for a 56 Fairlane. Anybody want to comment?
