New to the Forum

Nice car!! One of Fords best looking I think!! welcome to the barn I also am new here and really enjoy the forum currently working on a 58 ranchero

Well, at least my data plate says it's a 312 ;)

I'll have to check some numbers when I get a chance. The car APPEARS to be mostly original, but who knows what it has been up to in the past 58 years?

NICE Country Squire btw!
That's a very nice car :)
Re. "at least my data plate says it's a 312"
"312 main caps are always marked ECZ , all other Y-Block main cap are marked EBU. This is the only positive way to identify a 312 block."

So, checking the bore and stroke or crankshaft flange won't identifiy a 312 ?
Yes it will, but..... :o
"312 crankshafts typically have an identifying mark on the crankshaft flange." (from the Mummert link)
Implying there may be (admittedly rare) instances of the identifying mark on the crank being missing, so not foolproof.
Measuring the bore & stroke will certainly do it, but I suspect a large percentage of y-block owners (myself included) don't have easy access to tools that will do it accurately.
I was trying to pass along that looking at the main bearing caps is probably the easiest 100% way for most folks who want to know. (when the engine is out of the car and/or the oil pan is off)

1956 Ford are great looking cars. Attached are photos of recently imported 1956 Ford Fairlanes of various body styles. For 1956, Ford Australia only offered the Customline 4 door sedan, so these recent imports are a welcome sight in Australia.

Hey! We want those back!:p

money talks i guess.:(

Here is another 1956 Ford Town Victoria that has managed to find it's way to Australia. The other 2 pictures are of 1956 Ford Customline Victorias. When the 1956 Fords were released, there was no 4 door hardtop (called Town Victoria) and no Victorias available as Customlines. They were released a few months later. For Brochure collectors, the original Brochures with a ptint date of 8-55 do not list these 2 cars. However the Revised Brochure, Rev 1-56 does include them. There definitely was not a 4 door hardtop in the 1955 Ford Line-up. This is confirmed by the fact that even when the 1956 Fords were released, there was none available either. That all changed a few months later as mentioned above.

This is the Advertisement that appeared in National Geographic Magazine showing these 2 new body styles that were added to the Ford line-up in the new year, after the other models had been released. They included the brand new Fairlane 4 door hardtop Victoria, as well as the Customline Victoria.

You guys in the USA don't release how well you are off with cars, with all these body styles to choose from. Imagine if you lived in Australia and wanted a Convertible.
You could shop in the USA and find a good Sunliner, which would not be cheap. Then you have to ship it to Australia and the costs just keep on mounting up. This entrepreneur has made his own Convertible by removing the roof from a local 1957 Ford Customline and welding up the back doors. He can then enjoy motoring with the Top Down and he doesn't have to worry about converting the cat to Rifg Hand Drive.
Before some Barners write in and tell me that this Convertible has been made from a 1956 Ford Fairlane, I beg to differ.
Ford Australia never released the "true 57" Fairlane/Custom models, but chose instead to release the "new" 1957 Ford that wore the Side Trim of the 1956 Fairlanes, but still retained the name Customline.
This Convertible has been made from a local 1957 Ford Customline.
