New Muffler Shock

It's been a LONG time since I had any muffler work done, but I got a quote today to replace the exhaust on my 42 Fordor with G six cylinder.
So it's one pipe front to back and a small muffler in the middle somewhere.
$500 to $600 the guys says.

Am I just that out of touch with today's cost? This was at a Meineke muffler shop near me.

I am still looking for other places to get estimates.

That sounds very high unless it's being done in stainless.

I've had duals done for that price. Maybe get a quote from a smaller non-chain muffler shop.

Waldron Exhaust made a dual setup for my 36 in stainless with SS tube type muffs for $500. Thats from the end of the headers to the tail pipes. Fit good too!

A local shop did the duals on a '40 1 1/2 ton cab and chassis and more recently on my '39 p/u for 300 bucks total out the door. The p/u was avout 2 years or so ago but 500 seems high to me.

Waldron website says 300$ plus shipping custom made to order. I'll see what the couple little local shops says. But I have a feeling its gonna be Waldron

if you have the big green ford parts book look up the part numbers . The muffler and tail pipe might be the same as for the V8 cars. The head pipe from the manifold to the muffler might be the only one you'll need to have made.

I pulled my coupe into a muffler shop year or so ago, place was empty, swept and wiped down.
I asked the office manager how much to remove the mufflers and weld in pipe.
$400.00
I thanked him for his time.

Actually it says all Waldron sets are made to order, call for expected time to ship. They don't keep set in stock evidently. Sacramento didn't show parts for anything but the V8. If I have to buy pieces I'd like to get all the from the same place if I can.

That's the way this Meineke was, one car in the 4 bay shop two guys sweeping, and he told me he couldn't do it today even if I wanted it. 3 hours till closing.
Excuse me WHAT???????

I know you dont... but If you have fentons or any aftermarket exhaust manifolds you might want to fold off. Can't say on waldons stock kit, I'm sure its perfect.

I have been hit or miss with Waldons. My 36 woodie set fits just fine except for the cross over pipe which needed a couple inches added. The muffler shop who installed it added a few inches of carbon steel to the stainless. I sent it back and they sent me another one charging for materials only and the cost of shipping here and back. I had to cut and weld every piece of pipe on my 41 woodie to get it to fit. I tacked it and had a friend TIG it with stainless. Both sets were in stainless. But I couldn't find another place to make it in stainless.

Tinker, no aftermarket header. its a 226 G six cylinder with original exhaust parts.

Waldrons probably wont be perfect, I was wondering how they would have he bends and turns correct.

Let us know. Might work great. Buy some hangers also. Not saying it wont work great. Most aftermarket stuff needs to be "massaged" a bit. No big whoop.

I put a stock waldron system on my 52 F1, it fit like a glove. Only problem was that the lead time was 10 weeks! If you go with one of their more aggressive sounding mufflers they fab it upon order and you go to the back of the line.
