I got this trans with a 51 Ford. I would like to find out just what years it will fit as I am going to sell it.

There’s a casting number on both the side cover and the tail housing. There may also be a number cast into the gearbox case. There are not stamped numbers….should be slightly raised digits. They could be somewhat obscured by a buildup of old grease and dirt, so some scraping and wire brushing may be needed. You could also take a couple pictures from the driver’s side of the entire transmission and post them here.

I've looked and can't find any casting numbers. The only number I've found is the part number on the input shaft housing. Looking at the pictures on your site the front shift lever is bent like the 51 trans

Need a left and a right side view to confirm ID. There were variations in the 259 series from 1949 through 1953 but that's just the flathead years. There were also standard 3-speed and overdrive versions. The T85 was the heavy duty version for Ford but it also had the standard front bolt pattern. Ford used that front bolt pattern on the early 4-speed transmissions as well.

Ford shoe box cars from 1949 through 1951 were all similar but the 1951 clutch pedal control and rear mount changed for that year. 1951 was the change year for the internal gears that followed through the end of the flathead V8 production.
