Not necessary to get ring gear red hot to install. Flywheel cold (use dry ice). Ring gear under 1000 degrees F. (No color). I noticed that the broken ring gear is raised up off the seat.

It still looks like a normal weld to fasten the ends together. Is it a crack, or just looks like a crack?
Is the first picture after you tapped it off, then you just layed it on top for the picture?
They should take a lot of hard hits to remove them.
I just lay the gear on top, then go around with a torch to expand it until I can tap it into place. Work fast because it will cool quickly when it's in contact with the flywheel. I like to use a brass bar and heavy hammer to drive it home.
I've heard some repro gears were made a bit loose. The last one I installed was so tight I had to use extreme heat from an ox/acc torch, then still beat it into place.
