If you are talking about the shift lever, then it may be the spring and trunion pin at the top of the shift tower that bolts onto the transmission. There were two caps that held the shift lever on the transmission shift tower. I believe the earlier one was pinned while the later one had threads and was screwed onto the shift tower. Both had a pin that fit in a hole drilled on the shift tower. The pin is about 1/4 inch in diameter and maybe 3/4 inches long (going from memory). It fits into a slot cut in the hemisphere-shaped trunion of the shift lever that sits in the shift tower and keeps the shift lever from rotating. The spring would then go between the cap and the upper part of the shift lever trunion. When the cap was placed on the shift tower, the spring would keep the shift lever from moving up. I'll try to get some pictures this evening if no one else beats me too it.
