You don't need to go offshore to find people who can't speak English worth a darn. Why these people end up in customer service jobs is beyond me.

Disclaimer: Sadly, most of this post will fall on deaf unknowing ears.
While this is not supposed to be a hot rod forum, there is a
big percentage of people on here own plain old down home hot rods. (Simple definetion of hot rod, any car modified for better performance, driveability or looks, by the owner)
The bitching about foreign made junk parts is a part of the culture. This junk has been around since the 60's or thereabouts. It will only get worse if people keep buying it.
We are talking basic chassis and running gear parts here, not body and trim stuff. You are on your own there.
There is something you can do about it and while there isn't much heard on some forums, there are a LOT of people buying from a very large source that is little known in the hot rod circles. That is the pro racing parts industry. A lot of the second hand stuff from circle cars is more than adequate for street use and almost always far better than junk yard parts.
If you are going to invest some time in research of this subject, you need to learn the various terms used because some are quite different but refer to the same part that is known by another term in a different venue.
It is quite possible to build a "traditional" looking hot rod roadster or coupe chassis with nothing but race car parts and do it probably at half the price most people do it for.
Some things will look slightly different such as shocks are mounted body up to reduce unsprung weight and other small differences.
Most all modern race car steering is "power" now. These can be used as cowl mounted which is becoming more popular or can be mounted under the floor clear of headers and other
things. They can also be modified for use in the conventional
position as a last resort.
Sprint car and midget front ends can be bought complete with brakes (disc). There are vintage assemblies with cross springs but most have torsion bars. A whole new world for most hot rodders.
While most circle cars do not have transmissions, almost all engines and chassis' can be adapted to the users desires.
Any rear end can be adapted also be it closed housing or open axle. While open axle rear ends are a bit harder on tires, if you have the driving ability, you will adapt in a very short time. They have a very high "cool" factor. Many guys I know that have them would never go back.
I have built several roadsters and a couple coupes over the years with ex race car chassis's. Almost any body can be adapted. They really draw the spectators.
The neat part about all this is, all the parts are American made and the highest quality you can get. If you want to really step up, you can get many of the parts made from titanium or carbon fiber. Talk about brag rights!

Guys give them a chance !! They will get up to speed they employ a lot of good Americans ,They sell my stuff so I have a vested interest but ,they have far more resources than Macs had to introduces new products, In my previous lot of parts I got in some made in Taiwan ,Japan /ect I thought they were very good quality .They do strive to keep prices low . I think we are lucky to get the range of stuff for our V8s ,you will not get the same for a Buick or Chev Ted
Yeah Ted, but $70US shipping for a $1.95US part? No thanks.

Unlike other suppliers, Mac's does not pull your order the same day that they receive it. No other company that I buy from will take a week or more for delivery to Washington State.

That's what killed them for me. They're in the next state over from me, and would take three days just to pack it up. Just about everyone else has it on the truck same day or next day. Now Mac's wants an additional fee to 'rush' the order. Unreal. If they spent money on a better warehouse situation, they wouldn't have to make up for lost money in cheap customer service.

in the late 90s I was unemployed one winter and applied for unemployment, via a phone call ,couldn't understand the person on the line, asked where she was,she said india,im out of work and some dot head is ..very sad

I have both bought and sold at Mac's and have NEVER had a problem or waited excessively to receive my stuff. This statement applies to after and before Eckler's.

If you are in business and if you have employees upon whom you must rely, sometimes things are going to get screwed up. All we(employers) can do is train our people and educate them on the consequences of screwing up and hope for the best with large doses of follow-up and corrective discipline.

On a recent order from MACs they wanted to ship FedEx to Alaska which cost more than the parts. I emailed with customer service who said they will ship by USPS if you ask. So, I asked in the comment section when I placed the order but the shipping came up as FedEx. So I emailed with the same customer service person and they fixed it. It shouldn't have been so difficult but they did ship by regular mail.

I think MAC's has been given the thrashing it deserves on this thread and others. How about it's now dead, buried and forgotten ?

( Same one we always use for 21 years)
After some conversation, i couldnt understand the language the rep was speaking and told him so. He said in his best broken english "goodby" !!!!!!!!!!
Tried to get another 1-800 in all afternoon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

bought some paint from Mac's to do a fender

Mac's provided bo information just the paint.
Be the cautious guy i am i checked into the paint manufacturer and found I needed a hardener and special primer with it;s own catalist.
The paint from macs also required a reducing agent.
all in all i paid 110 dollars for a quart of paint and then needed and additional 200$ for needed additative to get the paint to harden. It was something right out of the Marx Brothers

Although I prefer NOS, NORS or good used original parts, we came to the realization the other day that without the big store vendors and offshore parts, the good NOS, NORS and used parts would not exist. I was looking for an original cowl light arm, and found plenty of good original used ones. That is when I realized why, many people prefer shiny new offshore parts to originals, so I end with their original used ones, thanks goodness.
