Machining drums

I haven't found a spec on them but I figure 12.060 about max just going by what newer 12 inch drums can be turned. Make sure both are the same on each axle unless you are arcing in the shoes..

Geez that's it hey..
Thought I would check , had a chat over the phone to a specialist brake and clutch place local and he said he recalled something like first, second and third oversize for early drums but I assume going out to third oversize would be well beyond .060 . See what happens when I take them off and have them measured..

Even if they are .080 over it's not a deal killer. However, not matching the shoe OD to the drum ID is.

I see you are in Oz, but here in the USA I'd replace the drum before fooling with turning one down. I'd buy a new MT products drum and have modern studs installed in the hub. I've done that twice with rears when I put discs on the front of 36 and 41.

The killer part comes when you have an accident and the lawyer for the person you hit claims that it is your fault since the drums were turned beyond what is considered the standard industry practice and you couldn't stop in time. It is also possible that you can't find a shop that will turn them beyond .060.

The shoe linings are made to first second and third oversize .. I don't think there is anything here like shoe arching here , the drums are machined to say first oversize, then you buy first oversize shoes and they fit perfect.

Ahhh if it was a easy as just buying some new drums.. Hate to think of the cost to get them out here now..

Hell Charlie, I can't find anyone in this town smart enough to measure them when they turn 'em. I even had a good friend at a Dodge dealership argue with me when he turn my rears on my 29 rpu. I asked what they measured and he said "what difference does it make?" Guy at NAPA doesn't even have a measuring device.
When I lived in Alaska, the guys at NAPA just let me go in the back and do my own. I hate letting someone else do them.
