Lock Nut or Castellated?

So I guess that answers the original question, castellated or lock...

I'll used the castellated........

Aircraft spruce has the others, but for 8 rod nuts and 6 main bearing plus shipping it's nearly $30...

I now use ARP rod nuts...part # 300-8333, which come in a pack of 10 nuts. These utilize more of the available threads than the castle nuts and are self locking.
These nuts are used on modern engines and by banger engine builders who run Fords A/B engines for racing.
Gleaned this important info from a members book , which I'd advise that you read if building any A/B engine:). Good luck

And the name and source of the book is . . . ???

Hey Carl,
You're funning me right,eh  !
Seems EVERYONE in the A/B world knows of Jim Brierley and of his '4-bangers! And me!'....book. Great read and great tips/info for building mild to wild A/B engines :)

Seems like I've heard his book mentioned, it's just one that I don't have.

OK, I sent Jim a PM

I used castellated nuts and cotter pins...all torqued and pinned.....all ready had them, might as well use them...

Thanks for all the reply's..

I'll know what to look for next time....

Hey Carl,
You will be glad, IMO, that you got his book , as he shares more information than most will ever. And, Jims' info has been learned over many decades. Best of all, Jim is not above going into detail and helping to explain things that may not be clear to some(ok...that includes me :D)!
