Looks like spindle pin PRESS :) I can't imagine pulling a pin.
You will find,if and when you would use this, just how wonderful a tool it is. I have the KRW version and when I have come upon a "stuck" pin... it works with ease.
Good score!

I was imagining that the piece on the right had a hole through it and the screw thread had steel dowels that pressed or 'pulled' the old kingpin out. I have never seen or used any similar tool so it's all new to me. However I did pull my latest set of kingpins and they were stuck 'real good'. Most of the searches I had done in the past focused on a BFH. I decided to try this instead. In the end I settled on a tall coupler nut as the regular nut's threads wouldn't hold up to the abuse. I tried a fine thread nut and bolt, but the hardness didn't weld as well for me, as I'm not a very experienced welder. Tapping the pin from below as another person took up the slack with a 1/2" drive ratchet produced the best results.

Here are a couple of pictures that I had found googling for info. This will also push out radius rod pins if you have the correct " upper flange" with a large opening in it (which I don't have

) to fit over the flange on the pin. Bill

Once you use one of these, you'll wonder how you did this job in the past without it...

You've inspired me to build a mini one for door hinge pins. I'm sick of grinding, drilling and pounding. I have two doors to pull this week.

Don't buy the hinge pin tool from MAC's, I bent the pins on the first set of hinges I tried it on. Returned it and still waiting for refund. Thanks outlaw on the Bob Drake part number, I will look into it. I sure do like the looks of the king pin tool, especially if it pulls perch bolts too.

That is the one I have made by snapon. Will do model A on up to 48 perch pin bolts

Dare I say it!

Bob Drake makes one. A very nice cast one. Part # TL100.

But I need mine for this afternoon as I will be heading out on a parts trip on the other side of the state and need to snag two jailbar panel front doors along with a huge load of other parts. Picture two 3/8" coupler nuts, the type made for ready-rod. Thread them both onto a scrap piece of rod leaving 2 1/2" or so between them. Enough so the hinge fits between them. Now weld 3 pieces of rod or strap onto the flats. Next bore out the top nut so it will clear the head of the pin. Take a grade 8 bolt and grind (don't have a lathe) the last inch or so as a pin to fit the pin diameter. What made the pins bend with the cast one? I'm hoping to whip this up during lunch today. Maybe 1/2" nuts would work better but more grinding. Might this work?

The pins bent under pressure, removed the first pin and tried again with more heat. The second pin bent and became lodged in the Bolt and that is when I decided to return it. I cut the top of the hinge pins off and drove them out through the bottom of hinges with nail set a BFH. It looks identical to the one offered by Drake and Eastwood, any recommendations for a better quality tool? I have 4 more doors to remove pins on.

The Drake tool works great if the pins are hard enough, I would recommend buying drill rod the right diameter and using that as the pin. Please wear Safety glasses if they shatter.

This is the fifth day we have been trapped on our hill with our 1/2 mile mountain road iced over. I have cabin fever and am bored with the TV so I am heading down to the shop to paw through all my junk nuts and bolts and the steel scrap to build a king pin 'pusher' based loosely on the snap on design. Wish me luck. When UPS can get up our road my new king pins should be here.

The King Pin tool does look similar to the Model A Hinge Pin pusher. But as another Barner and I found, it does not have the correct clearance to fit around the rain gutter on the '39.

I have not had time to weld this up, but was looking at making a tool similar to this. The bottom hole would be threaded and use a bolt similar to the Mac hinge pin pusher.

These tools work great on king pins, but I can't begin to imagine any of these tools being able to push or pull any perch pin that is Frikken' STUCK to the axle, as MOST usually are. A 30-TON press many times won't do that job. DD

Coopman, You are once again correct. The taper of a perch pin and the subsequent "frozen in place" pin to axle can often require much more than a measly 30t press.

I have had to utilize a very large vertical drill press and drill the darn things out a time or three.
