Ken ct you were right

KenCt. Thankyou for the explanation.

Mike51merc. Maybe some one with a green book can give us some details of the variations of the big under diaphragm spring. My guess is there has to be more than one spring listed.
Bluebell, there are 2 springs listed in the "Green Bible" 1 for 34 up to 48 [all the same spring] and 1 for the 6 cyl. painted yellow,no dimentions for weaker or stronger or length. ken ct.

someday all you will have is what the Chinese make so might as well get over it, it's not their fault we have to make a ton of money per hour if we make and produce it. If it weren't for them we wouldn't have a lot of parts available to us at all. I'm just sayin that it's better to have some part rather than no part. We gave this country away as far as production and cost. I used a China made pump on my 47 working fine, have had no problems, so what does that mean? Bluebell has the right to have his opinion without gett'n beat over the head. As for some price does become an issue, and some of the folks that have the USA brands, aren't askin cheap money for them to be purchased and used, when you would think it's for the preservation of these cars that it would be at a fair price, but hey your charg'n more because it's made in the USA and everyone is convinced that's the better way to go, and maybe it is, but I buy my tools now at Harbor Freight, why because they are affordable made by China.... because now the Craftsman are way too expensive, and are made by China probably anyway, and the price I could pay for one I could by three from Harbor Freight if it breaks, but I have also learned that if it breaks Harbor Freight will replace it, now how can you beat that, you mean you will still go out and buy Craftsman or Snap on just because it's USA? really!!

Hey Peewee i charge more because i have to pay more for the usa parts. If the day comes i cant get them anymore i'll give it up and cease operations,im not making a living off of this believe me. ken ct.

But Ken, the OEM Ford pumps were designed to put out more pressure than the stock carbs could handle. Why? I don't know; perhaps to allow for some wear and tear on the cam, the pushrod, and the pump itself.
Where did you get this info? If it were true, Ford would have had to supply a pressure regulator on all their cars.

The Ford spec for the large diaphragm spring is 6.12 to 7.4 pounds at a compressed length of 5/8".

I have done a significant number of fuel pump tests under various spring and mounting height settings. It would be interesting to actually test some of the highly praised "USA" rebuilt pumps for the purpose of gathering data.

So why are pressure regulators made ,just curious
 A fuel pump is no harder to rebuild than some of the new faucets made today .Just about everything is made in some foreign country today ,probably even the things that say made in USA.,it's our own fault .JMO

I fail to understand why some people get there undies in a bunch.I simply thanked ken for correctly diagnosing a problem I was having. It appears the the china pumps seem to have issues.Furthermore at the rate that Chinese goods are being imported into the USA I have grave concerns about our future.Phil

Thanks Phil, ken ct.

It's not so much that our workers do not deserve a decent living, as it is the Chinese, and the American mfgs who exported our heritage are willing to work for slave wages! We could, and did afford it, until greedy management felt no compunction in exporting our capabilities. That China thing is driven by greed, at the ultimate expense of our way of life. And I kick myself, as I find myself buying Chinese goods with our decreased standard of living, it is sometimes all one thinks he can afford!

I like Ford mustangs as well as flatheads and will rue the day if the Mustang survives that it will ever be made in China ( some things are just American icons).....well I'm really worried just look at the "eyes" on the proposed 2015 model, but thats the way the world is going . Years ago "Jap was crap" now they make some the most reliable products in the world, Korean the same. so the prognosis has to be good for Chinese quality. Sorry I degress.........time to get back to flat heads.

It was more like the greedy consumer, who wants it all, wants it right now, at the lowest possible cost that drove most manufactures to the lower production costs in China. I sadly saw it happen at the company I worked for just before I retired.

Not to get political, but don't company profits play a role in this outsourcing thing? A consumer is only as "greedy" as the supply and demand curve allows.

You say tom-ay-to and I say tom-ah-to......

My mfg plant compeats daily against the chinease. We are not competive price wise, not even close. The only way we are competive is QUALITY and SERVICE.The last few years have been an up hill fight. The only way we can survive is by keeping our cost down, quality up and give good service.China is already having problems and the playing field is leveling. The USA has lost so much of it manufacturing.I my self try to buy as much domesticly made goods as I can.It has become difficult to find US made products on the shelf.ITS A FRIGHTENING SITTUATION!!! Now I will get off my soap box. Phil

Your right on Phil, most people dont realize how much trouble it is finding out who has the USA parts. Lots of time spent on the PC doing so and its a non-paying job trying to find them. But its worth it in the end.You get quality parts. ken ct.

Folks, China manipulates the US Dollar to their advantage. I work in the grain trade and China manipulates every possible angle to their advantage. China can not be trusted and often they will come out and even say something just to make markets move in their favor. I see it every week. That is part of the problem. Now I'm not going to get political on a ford hobbiest web site but the other problems lay in politics and un__ns.

Back to the topic, I'm glad to see someone THANKING another for helping them out. Thanks to fordbarn, two folks here with a common interest have accomplised something for the better.
