Just wondering

Saturday morning, the MAFCA club sent a nice and positive 'Happy 4th of July' email to its members, picturing a 1930 coupe in a pretty pastoral scene.

I am not a fan of AI, as I feel its impact is being way over-hyped. It can certainly collate vast amounts of information and see patterns that have been missed. But IMO it lacks discernment and originality. Perhaps some will have heard that Ford has rehired certain human inspectors who had been replaced by AI systems, as those systems were not getting the job done as well. A friend used AI to generate a biography of my life about a year ago and it completely ignored an international organization I help to create and to run for almost 20 years, while including copious verbiage about an insignificant accomplishment.

Here's a comparison of the coupe from the email with a genuine coupe photo from almost the same angle. Close inspection will reveal significant differences. While I appreciate the patriotic sentiment embodied in this email, I question the wisdom of using an ersatz AI-generated car in something being sent to the very group of people most likely to notice the differences. I don't believe it could have been that hard to use a genuine coupe image in that email.

I mean no insult to the MAFCA folks who sent out the email.

How does everyone else feel about this?

Kind of similar to the image attached to the announcement of the new Judging Standards with the exhaust manifold on the left side of the engine....

Wow, and how about the oil bath air cleaner on a down draft carb. Also, is that radiator shell brass?

IMHO, AI is just a cheap and quick way to do things, not a particularly accurate way of doing things.

Lol, what the heck is going on in this area? The bumper has a gear shift sticking out like a tumor. Not sure what the hood ornament is supposed to be.

I will say, this is light years better than what AI was producing if you asked for a Model A 12 months ago.

I agree. Just like it's quicker and easier to write text without punctuation and capitalization. I don't care for that approach either and would never email the members of an English teachers association in that manner.

I figured that was showing the new Standards figuring out what was non-stock on the engine. I think I probably could have done that without a book...

IMO, before they got carried away with Artificial Intelligence, they should have paid attention to Natural Stupidity!

What we're missing is cheap and easy vs actually relating your idea to a human who can research and accurately create your vision. I imagine if you spent the time go go back to the image and make corrections after 10-15 tries it would be more accurate. But everyone isn't OCD enough to do that.

Human Graphic Artists

  • Empathy & Context: Human designers understand the culture, emotions, and specific goals behind a brand to tell a coherent story.
  • Critical Thinking: Humans can interpret messy client briefs, mediate feedback, and adapt designs to real-world constraints.
  • Reliability: Graphic artists ensure legal and ethical compliance, avoiding copyright issues and maintaining consistent, on-brand results.

AI (Artificial Intelligence)

  • Speed: Generative AI tools (like Midjourney or Adobe Firefly) can create iterations and concepts in seconds.
  • Automation: AI handles tedious work, such as background removal, color palette extraction, and image resizing.
  • Endless Exploration: Acts as a creative sounding board, providing unique combinations of styles that might not have been previously considered

ModelA29,

It wouldn't have taken very much time at all to use AI to create the pastoral background and then to paste an image of a real 1930 coupe in front of it.

Again, why use an ersatz image of a coupe to send to an audience who will realize it is an AI-generated image, with the idea it will make no difference to the viewers?
