Judging Standards Question

I don't think any judge will need a magnet to identify an aluminum fan but I have seen a box wrench used to identify repro valve stem covers. Never heard of any rule saying magnets or measuring devices were not to be used but team captains often have their own quirks.

One guy in my country he restored a model T, he want put the originals steel pistons, but other friend explained, they are best use a new aluminium pistons, He wanted the car very original, And he thinking the judges may be taken out the sparks plugs and use a magnet to view is the engine piston are really original, he put the originals pistons, but is only a history, in my country there are no judges !!!

I think the confusion comes from that the standards require the fan to be not only original style but also must be steel (original style, steel, two-blade fan). I don't think there is an origianal style steel reproduction fan available at this time?

The aluminum pistons would be my choice if the engine needed new pistons. My 1949 Chevy 1 1/2 ton truck still has the original cast iron pistons, but the aluminum pistons would be easier on the bearings.

It was changed several years ago...

original style METAL

Jim I was refering to the 97 revision page 15 preliminary judging. Are you refering to the new 2011 standards?

I've used a mirror and a flashlight..but that's more cuz i'm so damn fat i can't get to where I want to see what i want. I've never seen a magnet and have had one chief judge state in no un-certain terms that magnets won't be used. Never a magnifying glass, although for something like the key number on the pop out it would be handy ( i still won't use one). tape measure? not even sure where it would be used..but have never seen one. I've judged undercarriage 4 times, green bay, madison, dearborn, grand rapids and not seen any thing except flashlights, RGnJS, and pencil and paper used. but I may have been under a car...fwiw,jm

Two quickly come to mind, ...Windshield Wiper arm & blade length, and Cooling Hose lengths.

.

Thanks Don, I'm a member of both national clubs so I don't know how I missed that! I did know the new standards will allow it.
