Introduction and my project truck

Great project. your Gran Pap would be proud. I'd kill for a garage like that. Best of luck. Keep us posted

Thanks guys for all the comments. I'm not sure what the capacity is of the truck. I know its not as good as the dually trucks, but it will do what it is intended to. As far as the shop is concerned, first thanks for all the compliments. It was my grandfathers shop where he did all of his tinkering. My brother and I finished the inside of the barn, put concrete down(use to be dirt floor) and put heat into it. Trust me I grateful to have a nice work space! The intended purpose of the truck is to have it done by this up coming September for our local Antique Tractor show. The truck will be used for the steam engines that will be on the grounds. Hauling coal, wood, tools, and a water buggy. This was my friends idea that got the truck running since they are quite involved with the tractor club. Thanks again guys!

The real important stuff, like bushings, and other such nickle and dime stuff is...well...important. It makes or breaks a chassis. Clench your teeth and buy the stuff. You won't regret it.

Funny you should say that Greg I was taking the rear springs apart and the shafts and bushing are toast! I have spent a lot of time going over everything and making sure that its within proper spec and no slop in them. I know its the little stuff that adds up!

single tire AAs were rated to one ton. Duallys were rated at 1 1/2 ton. I used to know a dairy farmer who regularly put 5 tons on his AA and towed a trailer with 5 more on it. That's one reason your spring shackles and bearings are shot. Heres a pic to inspire you.

I have few tools & even less mechanical knowledge, so I really appreciate it when guys like you take the time to share photos & details of what you're doing. As a grandfather myself, I'm deeply touched to read how much your granddad meant to you. I'm looking forward to seeing photos of a BEAUTIFUL truck when you're done.

Very nice truck and great the way you are restoring it for your Grandfather. Do enjoy the pictures of your progress.

BTW Pat, is that your Fordson on the truck? Or is it not a Fordson?

Ohhhh to have some of jay Leno's collection would be awesome! The Advanced engine he has there were a more common engine then The Woods Brothers engine that we have. Case was another common traction engine. The reason they converted it to propane is cause of the California greenies not ease of operation. Real steam engineers fire on coal, wood, corn cobbs, etc. But still its great that he preserved the engine!
