First off let me say hello to everyone here at the Ford Barn! Great website with a ton of knowledge. I can say that I have learned quite a bit already from just lurking! I figure it would be in good taste to show you gents what I have been working on. I know that AA's don't get as much attention as the regular model A's, but this is what I got and it has a special meaning to me. This was a pickup that my grandfather had bought some time ago. Not sure exactly when he bought, but it was part of his collection. In 1993 my grandfather was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He live just over a year until he passed in the summer of 1994. Thats when I got the truck. At the time I was only 10 years old. The truck ran and drove before being put into our cow barn were it resided until 2010. I had a friend of mine get the truck running that has tons of model a experience, his father owns a model a parts business that you may have heard of Old Standard Auto Parts. Enough blabbing here are some pictures of when it resided in the barn.

To say the truck was a little dirty is an understatement, so it was drug out and got the truck running. It was rough running, but ran. Still had some carb issues with it before I decided to take it all the way apart and go through the truck. I have to do right by my grandfather, so there ain't no half assing going on. I'll post some pictures of the tear down here in a minute.

So I got the truck rolled into the shop under its own power and decided to tear into. I have always had cars or motorcycles, so I have a decent mechanical ability, and these trucks are pretty simple. Not saying there hasn't been some head scratching cause there has been. More Pics!

The nice thing about having a truck with a bed this size I have a place to put the parts that I have taken off of it!

Yes...do it right the first time.

Looks like a great project and it looks just like mine.

Is there a gas tank date?

You just might want to join the Double A Club...Neil Wilson does an EXCELENT job with his yearly newsletter. He has already done some MAJOR articles on that particular truck.

See the above STICKY for his website.

Pluck

Ok , Kid ,,, l,o,l, you have a great truck there ! But whats that black machine next to it??? that looks pretty good too....some kind of steam farm tractor or something like that? by the way [Nice shop you have to work in....]

Got the frame strip down to nothing and it was time to take the frame to the sand blasters, and start heading in the other direction. Rebuilding the truck! More pics!

So far this is where I stand with the truck. I have ordered a bunch of parts so I'm just waiting for those to arrive to make some more head way with the truck. It feels great to have a project that has a lot of meaning to me, and to be doing right by my grandfather. He thought of my brother and I with this truck, and this is me returning the favor. Cheers to you John L. Laue!!!! You guys have any question or comments fire away!

I would figure gentlemen of your age would know what was in the back round. That there is a 1914 Woods Brothers Double gear plow engine. As said before its a steam traction engine. Thats only one in the world that is complete, and it was running before my brother had a mishap with the gearing on the engine. That was my grandfathers pride and joy there. So now my brother carries on that tradition.

The truck is a 1929. The gas tank date is 7/29/29. I plan to leave the doors the way they are and considering the age of the truck they are in great shape. No holes or nothing, just light surface rust. The cowl and tank are perfect. Splash aprons were the worst but they might be salvageable still! Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement!

I GOT IT RIGHT! Thanks. Gary WA.:)

Nice to carry on a family tradition.....your grandpa is smiling bout this...good job!

Great truck and story. Welcome to Fordbarn and thanks for all the pics. The class of old cars and trucks known as "preservation class" is increasing in popularity and value. Leaving the body original would make it a unique truck as well as saving you a lot of work. But its your truck, so do what you please and enjoy it.. My first A was an AA in 1972. I still have it. Its under restoration because it was too rough for preservation.

Consider doing a high compression head.... great up-grade! Snyder's sells a nice one. Also a leakless water pump is a good idea too... I am also going with aftermarket hose clamps due to issues with leaks... Jegs T-Bolt clamps look retro and should do a great job.

Can't wait to see how this project progresses!!!

Man, that is my kind of shop! Any shop with a steam engine is my kind of shop! I suppose you fire it up in the winter time for steam heat. LOL :)

BTW, I agree that the truck will look best with the paint that's on it now.

That's a very straight and solid looking truck. I hope you continue to give us photo updates.
