Installing a 24 Stud Engine in a Stock '35

Do you have a stock steering box? If yes, did the Fentons fit without modification?

Chose to use a 1939 Ford Steering box (more positive steering improvement) which required removing approximately 1/8th inch material from the lower inside frame rail edge (facing the engine) ... sounds radical but not even noticeable - gave just over 1/4 inch clearance to the Fenton header - all performs perfectly - see picture and double click to enlarge.

JM 35 Sedan,

I purchased the Gates No. 21253, but one end is 2", instead of 1 3/4". What did you do to install the 2" on a flathead's 1 3/4" outlet? Just tighten the heck out of it? Or use a sleeve of some sort?

Richard

I would use a sleeve made from a piece of exhaust tubing, split it down one side.
Note: A rubber sleeve would be better! I was speed reading and was thinking muffler!!!

Just happened to see this.

I used a set of those hoses when installing a 59 engine, with Offenhouser heads, in a '35 tudor sedan with stock radiator. The larger diameter end of the hose fit the outlet OD on those heads perfectly. On stock 59ab and similar cast iron heads, the OD of the outlets are probably smaller. There is a NAPA rubber sleeve available that will solve your problem. The part number for that sleeve is NAPA #902. Not sure if there is a Gates part number for this same sleeve.

New engine in. Many thanks to all of you for your help, especially JM 35 Sedan and Ed Pitts. I am most grateful.

another thing, if you cut those top hoses to fit, its a good time and location to fit a thermostat in there,

Looking good!! It is always a pleasure to help those who really appreciate that help. It's also nice to know we helped get another early Ford back on the road
