Installing a 24 Stud Engine in a Stock '35

Is there anything that needs to be modified in terms of motor mounts when installing a 24 stud (specifically, a 29A) engine in an otherwise stock '35? Are the u-shaped risers necessary?

Sure are,and on my 33 I still needed to pack them up a little to get the crank to line up.
Rad hoses need changing and maybe a few other minor things.

No, the U shaped spacers are used only on 33-34. from 1935 on, the spacing of the engine mounts was standardised at the same dimension, meaning the 29A series engine will fit right into the 35. Use 8BA bottom radiator hoses. And you'll need to use different top hoses, I can't give you the numbers off hand. Use the existing 35 generator and fan assembly. Too easy...good luck.

Also make sure to anticipate and check fan clearance if you plan to use a stock ford belt driven unit. In my 24 stud install in the 35 Coupe the fan tips clear the radiator and the crab distributor by a 1/4 inch as noted in the photo (click in photo to enlarge).

PeterC. Nice looking engine install. What's the story on your air cleaner?

Air cleaner is original 35 Ford air cleaners (two)"siamesed" and metal worked to form one- countersunk over the 48's to clear the hood - Behind the stock mesh filter is a K&N washable filter:rolleyes:

The only need for U shapped (Mercury) spacers in a '35 engine conversion, that I can recall doing, was when I put an 8ba engine, with '49 Merc water pumps, in the '35 coupe I owned back in my high school days.

The engine and engine compartment in PeterC's '35 3w coupe looks amazingly nice as does the entire
car. Met Peter and got to see his '35 coupe earlier this year at the Rodders Journal Reunion, Pimlico Race Course, Baltimore, Maryland.

Here are a few pics I took at the show...

What's the gizmo on the firewall with the two lines running to it?
Thanks
Jim

Jim - That's the original Columbia 2-speed control valve and vacuum lines that is connected to the dash mounted Columbia lever - see picture to see examples of the lever, rod and valve system unique to 35-36 units.

Where can I get the hoses and radiator pipes?

There is a one piece hose and rubber sleeve available from Gates (I don't have pn's handy) that works perfectly at the top. I believe on your conversion, the radiator outlet tube and water pump inlet will line up close enough that a section of straight hose cut to the correct length will work for lower hoses.

John, here is an earlier post that you did for the upper radiator hose for the 59 into a '35. Ed

Dicky, I used the Gates #21253 as an upper radiator hose when I installed a 59ab engine in a '35 Ford tudor sedan. There is also a Gates hose #20151 that will work well as the lower hose. If you use the search function here and plug in "gates radiator hose" you will find many other posts on this same subject with lots of information and pictures.

Thanks Ed. I was going to look that up after doing my earlier post, but got side tracked and forgot. One thing I should also mention is these hoses work well when installing a '37 to '48 engine with center outlet heads and stock to that engine water pumps, in a '35-'36 passenger car and some light commercial vehicles. I have been told that they will not work on 1/2 ton pu's
