Im stumped

A leaking head gasket will let water slowly dribble into the affected cylinder after shut down. The rings won't hold it when the engine is static. It will slowly get into the pan. The quantity depends on the leak. A person will usually notice a lot of water vapor from the exhaust during the warm up phase if there is a head gasket leak but not necessarily if the leak is small.

An engine can get a surprising amount of condense in it under the right conditions. It is usually vaporized if the engine is warmed up to full operating temperature and the vapor passes out the crankcase vent. If the car is only driven short distances and not properly warmed up, the condense can accumulate and cause sludge build up & moisture in the bottom of the pan. The amount depends on area conditions and again how often the engine is warmed up to specs.

I know of at least one instance where a water pump defect was allowing water to be forced back through the oiling hole on a 59 series engine. Found out by changing to a known good engine and the problem followed. Changed pumps and the problem went away. I have zero experience with 8ba engines and don't know if a water pump crack could get water into the pan but it drove my friend crazy until he figured it out. A rare event at any rate.

I was pondering the same thing, but I believe (too lazy to go into the shop!), that the 49-53 blocks don't have the water pump bushing oiling hole and run ball-bearing type of pumps.

Guess I'm goanna turn the pressure up to 50 and recheck it, especially around the pan rails...
Just to see I guess, Im pretty sure there's no repairing this ?

Hey Moefuzz, They still make castite, I went to there web site but didnt see anything to stop water.
