Hood latches

Hello all,

1925 coupe, where the double tab hood latches clamp the hood closed, the round bead at the bottom of the side panels, the spring loaded latches appear to have worn through the bead. I'm wondering if I should weld up the worn hole? It appears that the latch gets a better clamp with the tab catching the hole.

If I restore the bead the clamp looks like it would slip off the side panel. Question is, is there suppose to be a tab hole there and it's not worn at all?

Thanks...

That hole is from wear. The hood edge is rolled, and the clips just grasp onto the rolled edge.

A quick fix for the usual wear where the clamp holds the beaded edge is to drive in a short length of welding rod into the rolled edge from the end, that will 'mind the gap' :)

Henry thought his Model T's useful life was about 8 years, better than his competition in the 20's...he never figured it would be over 80 years and adding....

Did exactly what Modeltman did. 4 lengths of drill rod long enough to go past the wear spot. Grind a taper on one end of each and hammer home. Better than new.

After you install the rods in the hood to repair the worn area you can us a bit of fuel injection line, split lengthways to cover the problem & it grips well too. It also helps on an unworn hood to protect the paint & prevent the wear - particularly on the aluminum hood as pictured. It comes off easily to satisfy the judges that Bill respects so much.

1911 MIL roadster belonged to a Doozenburg guy who just died, and all thats left is this and a 1919 touring, plus, 4 huge barns plus 20 acres of stuff literally buried in the weeds. NO AUCTION, but a helluva garage sale Sept 23! Looking for anything obscure???

I was absolutely overwhelmed at the stuff! A walk in the weeds was tripping over all kinds of stuff... Maybe a flathead V8 Caddy block, or a Paige truck chassis? Buckets full of new old stock spokes??? ws
