Holley Carb Question

See that red spring and its assembly? It pushes the lever below and that pumps/squirts fuel. You guys know this better than I do, why am I explaining this to you?
I was changing my jets today and discovered this thing. I think the tighter the nut on top the higher the pump arm will be allowed to come up resulting in a larger quantity of fuel to be pumped when pushed down. If that is correct, what are the ill effects of too much squirt vrs too little squirt?

Thanks Much
Paul

Set it so that you have no play . When this is right gas will squirt as soon as you move the throttle . If you have play you will have the first part of your throttle opening without any gas = hesitation or backfire . Setting it with too much preload is not the way to adjust the discharge and can damage the accelerator pump diaphram . The proper way to adjust the amount and timing of the discharge is the plastic cam on the inside of the throttle lever and or the size of the discharge nozzles .

It's the accelerator pump. And it should have very little play as noted. If you desire more pump shot - two things: You can change the pump cam that is located on the inside of the throttle lever. It may be white, blue, orange, red, etc. and it activates the pump discharge. Also, if the car is stumbnling, off idle, you can also change the pump squirter that is located on the primary side of the carbureotr between the two venturii's. I worked at Holley for years and once you know what you're looking at, you can really tailor the carb for your application.
