Hole in frame...

My A frame has a 1" hole in the driver's side about 10-1/2" behind the steering sector. There are two holes about 5/16" dia above it and one below it. Is this for a side mount spare? Thanks!

Yes. I'm pretty sure you should have one on the other side too. (Click photo to enlarge.)

I have No Hole in my Frame, so I need to Drill for One.
Is their a Template Available, or Drawing to get the Exact
Measurements to drill for one ??
I have a Drivers Side Welled Fender, an I want to carry the spare. I guess I'll have to remove the Splash Shield to Drill for this ??
I don't have the Bracket yet either, looks like A1405BL is what I need.

Thanks folks! I pride myself that I'm not dismantling a complete car to build what I want, but without a complete car, you can't find out what everything's for. On my frame, the holes are on the driver side only. (Maybe a pick up?) Jazzjr- pm me if you want measurements- I should be able to get them tomorrow afternoon. Thanks again!

Once I welded up and redrilled a frame to correct the wallowed out holes for the steering box. I ended up using a die grinder and the burring tool. The stones didn't do the job. Bob

Hi Don, Thank you for the Post where you Qouted - Quote:
If you look close, you may find some factory dimples marking the spots to drill. Sort of like a center punch mark.

This Morning I removed the Splash Shield, Then I went to my Son's house, (on a Frame some one cut off behind the center crossmember) He has my Front Fenders, Fender Braces, Running Boards and Headlight Bar, mounted, to do the body work on the Fenders. This frame had the Holes drilled in them on both sides of the frame from the Factory. The 3 holes that hold the spare tire bracket are 5/16" and the Center Hole is 3/4"

I did find the Dimples, so now I can Drill the Holes in the Frame. My next Question I hope You or Some One Else can answer, is what Size Hole do I drill in the Splash Shield, I see I need to insert a Grommet in the Hole.
To line up the center 3/4" hole for drilling into the Splash Shield, I drilled a 1/4" hole in the frame which I will use a 3/4 Drill bit later. To get the almost close mark to drill in the splash shield, I am reinstalling the shield, put the body back down, and using a 8" piece of 1/4 all thread, nutted on each side of 1/4 hole in frame, run It out untill it touches the back side of the Splash Shield, and marking around the end of the bolt.
Then drilling a 1/4 hole from back, If I can find out what size hole needs to be drilled to accept the Grommet and Arm, I will drill it out and reinstall shield, and can install Carrier Arm later when I purchase one. Thanks Jazzjr

The hole is 1 9/16" on my original 29' splash shields.
Thanks any ways Russ, I should have mentioned, that my A is a 1930, and the Arms are different than a 28 - 29.
In fact 30-31 Spare Tire arms for Welled Fenders are different Left and Right for the face plate that holds the tire are at different angles. I called Macs Tech line, he said 1 1/8 hole for the Grommet, but the grommet # A1410A fits 28-31! Now Im really confused. Does anyone have a 30-31 Original Shield laying around, they could measure what size Ford made in them??
