Just wanted to say HI and see if I can stay for awhile.

I recently registered for the forums after I've lurked about for years during build projects of my '50 F1 and now my '40/41 Ford pickup. My trucks are not stock restorations .... they are mild customs and I know that's not the focus here on Ford Barn.com But I hope it's OK to join in for a question now and then. Even those of us who stray to the 'darkside' now and then need an understanding of the stock conditions of our autos and how to apply some restoration 'know how.' The forum participants over here at Ford Barn have some tremendous talent and knowledge that would be great to tap into. And someday, I might even have something to contribute. I promise not to talk 'modifications' if that's the rule!

I promise not to talk 'modifications' if that's the rule!

With all of the people on this forum putting the wrong year engines and carburetors in the wrong year of cars, converting to 12 volt, putting multiple carburetors on, alternators, dual exhausts, halogen and LED bulbs, fuel filters, electric cooling fans, blue dot tail lights, weird batteries, weird water pumps, weird thermostats, weird heads and weird cams, electric fuel pumps, relays, electric wipers, eggs (really, see here: http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65714) an unbelievable variety of lubrication, coolant and fuel conconctions, turn signals, (heaven forbid) radial tires, (good grief!) and who knows what other "non-stock" stuff on their vehicles obviously we have nothing against "modifications" so don't worry too much about that. We all seem pretty tolerant of what each finds joy in from purely authentic (you can probably tell that's me) to "something else" and try not to criticize each other's "fetishes." It is hard for some that know a lot to remember that they don't, in fact, "know-it-all" but we even tolerate that to a certain extent, some of us more than others. After a while you get a feel for who really knows and who just think they do. (Even the great I have been known to fall into both categories and will probably fall again.)

Welcome and glad you're aboard. :) You are right about a wealth of experience and knowledge here.

Some of us, do both full restorations, and restorations bring our toys up to safe standrards, ei brakes, and to be driven at highway speed (65) for enjoyment. While a few may snarel, any classic that is driven, and out for people to see keeps or passion growing. So welcome, there is a weath of knowledge here, and most, but not all will welcome you and offer what ever help we can. they others, well they are a dying breed. regards pat

Welcome aboard. I would say to some extent that most of the restorations are not totally period correct. Some of it because we don't know & some of it because of finding the correct part however the general public just enjoy seeing the old cars & not caring wether it has the correct carb or not. My 2 cents. I have 3 old cars & when I drive them down the street or stop for gas I get thumbs up & questions about them, kinda makes you feel good inside. Makes all the many hours of hard work seem worthwhile.
Gary.

I'm fairly new here and I try not to make waves LOL...use the 'search' feature before asking a a question, explain what you are working on, provide pictures of the problem if you can and it seems like most sins are forgiven as far as modifications go.

Just don't EVER, I mean EVER ask a queston about a chebby engine in a classic Ford!!! LOL :)

I enjoy the challenge of learning how these old beauties come apart and go back together and I like to to strive for orginal parts and original style. I started with something too rusty to reasonably save, so I'm mixing and matching while trying to stay 'period correct'. I've got a 36 pickup that is getting a 38 car frame and a 1940 24-stud engine. Plans are to keep it 6 volt and mechanical brakes.

Welcome, I look forward to your input and questions!

Welcome, FordBarn is a great tool. Use it wisely. I'm fairly newer to this great hobby and this is the place to wear off the "Green" and get some early Ford/Flathead knowledge:D

Ask a question, reply to a thread. If your wrong someone will tell you, if your right someone will agree with you. If your out of line, you will know.

As long as we learn from our mistakes and don't repeat them. Something comes up and with all the post's and reply's usually everyone is smarter from it.

Hi there and welcome to the FORDBARN , I have said it befor , without this site ,I would still be looking at a pile of sheetmetal and a bare frame in my celler  c,mon in an stay awhile

Thanks to all for the welcome and great responses! You know how to make a fella feel at home -- glad to be on board.

What I haven't heard much about on this forum that you may be into is stuff like turbochargers, superchargers, blowers, automatic transmissions of any kind, chopping, shaving, pneumatic lifters, cutouts, slicks, positraction, neon lighting, fuel injection, gull wings, frenching, sun roofs, moon roofs, tucked and rolled, speed chips and other of those more exotic customization methods.

Thanks for the list of seldom discussed subject matter Professor. I'm taking the fifth regarding any testimony about items from your listing of 'more exotic customization methods.' ;)
