Notice the two terminals 180* apart on the rotor that alternately fire high voltage to the cap terminals based on a four lobe cam and dual points. If you follow the rotor CCW from #1 on the cap you will see how this system actually gives you the same firing order to the plugs/cylinders as a standard '42 Ford crab distributor, 15486372. It's like having two four cylinder distributors working together to fire eight cylinders. At least that's my way of looking at how this system works.

Stock '42 Ford crab cap shown above
(Note: this is NOT the new Drake cap that will fit and work with either Ford or H&C distributors)

The basic summary from Francisco was based on that. Starting with #1 in standard location, every other terminal matched stock, the ones in between swapped locations with the ones 180 across the cap.

JM, The numbers are what my original has and was taken of my running 59 engine and is still assembled with looms attached. Thanks for the pics. 35ford kc

THATS GREAT !! I got the picture and will enclose with my Harmon Collins units from now on , this Ford Barn is a great place to hang out !!!

I have the engine off the test stand. It now has over three hours running and is ready to be dropped into my '41. That is as soon as the paint and body man gets the car ready. Waiting for others to do work is always a pain. :-(
Anyway the engine is done. .100 over bore with one cylinder sleeved. .20/.20 Merc crank. New valve seats. H&C 3/4 cam with Johnson lifters. H&C dual coil ignition. Offy heads and intake with a 315 Holley carb. She purrs like a kitten. ;-)

Bruce, I would still be interested in reading and copying that Don Francisco article if/when you find it, please post here. Thank you!

I'll post the firing orders...or better, shoot me a snailmail address and I'll land a copy on your doorstep. A scan would be MUCH better than my verbal descriptions..."Then, put the next wire over THERE...make it point at the round thing on top..."
