Thought I would upload some pictures

The cap is what fell down in the block- I only initially got a glimpse of it

You can tell the top part was welded and ground down

Last picture is the whole thing together

PO also made it too long- it is easy 1/8 inch longer than specs

Your pictures are not showing but just from your description it sounds like it has been messed with and not stock. (most likely the reason for the failure)

Should not be too difficult to find an original new or good used fuel pump rod for an 8ba engine. Consider putting up a want ad in the swap section here for best results.
