fuel press for holley 885

Do any of you fellows know what the recommended fuel pressure for the Holley 885 2 bbl on a 1951 Merc. is supposed to be? do you think that it could tolerate 4-5 3/4psi ?

It should be able to handle that fuel pressure. The Holley Teapot 4 barrels (2140 and 4000's) have the same type float and fuel valve and my '55 Ford shop manual says the spec. is 4.0 to 5.0 PSI @ 900 RPM.

Thanks Sal, I figured that it would be close. I have an electric pump that says its range is 4-8psi. do you think that it would be a bit to much, or should I take a chance and see how it goes? I may have to use a regulator.

my book says 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 #, if the pump gets anywhere near #8 you will have flooding problems, especially at long constant cruising speeds, I would install a good pressure regulator

I had Jim at Enderle Fuel Injection make a batch of these 'poppets' up for me, they are set at 3psi and can shim to 5 or 6psi. They tee into your carb supply and fuel pump supply, when the pressure gets above the poppet value then the excess fuel gets sent back to the inlet of the pump. It is a regulator that looks like normal engine stuff. I had planned to find proper fittings etc to offer as a 'kit' and do a tech article on here to show how it works but haven't found time. They are slick gizmos, if you need one let me know.

Daggone, I didn't mean to hijack. I am going to plumb one of them in a car this week and I'll do a little tech piece so's you can see how they work. I have 6 of them and will offer a few up for sale.
Thanks for the interest.

oj, you mentioned a "T" , do you need a return line or does the pressure deadhead if pressure is reached at the 3psi point and the excess is not being used ? price range?----Jim
