Fuel Fight

I have been fighting w/fuel smell & bleeding from carb when hot. Car is hard to start after sitting a while while hot. Runs perfect otherwise. I originally thought about the common problem of our wonderful modern day gasoline boiling out of bowl while hot. Installed heat insulator shield and problem remains. I decided to pull carb, tighten all screws, and reinstall w/ new manifold gasket. While cold and reattaching throttle linkage, noticed gas leaking around throttle lever & shaft area. Pictures are taken after sitting hot for a while. Looks as though gas leaking in this area. Time for rebuild? Any suggestions?

carb is probably getting hot, it gets even hotter for a while when you shut the engine off, two things to try, put a 3/4"to 1" spacer under carb to insulate the carb from manifold heat, if you havent already done so plug the manifold heat rizer cross over passage,, its under the manifold on top of engine just behind the carb, two round holes the size of pennies, on on each side of engine, in fact thats what guys use to plug then, they really heat up the manifold, i like to use to pieces of shim stock just big enough to cover the holes, put then over the holes on the engine, then manifold gasket and manifold

Thin shim stock will do.Wil run a little funky till it warms up or i would drill a small hole over the big passage to let a little heat cross over to the other side. Like 1/8 " ken ct.

Your spacer don't look very good to me. Contact Bob Shewman and get his 1/2" ventilated spacer which will do the job, I have several and they work. It comes with longer studs and is only $25.00 including shipping. 1-610-933-6637 or gadgiteer@aol.com G.M.

LOL Ken, out here on the west coast we do not need that cross over passage, and besides the carb gets hot enough with out that passage making the carb get hotter
