Front Motor Mount - Original and Float-A-Motor FAM

I removed the rubber pad under the transmission bracket and now things line up using the original style front motor mount. Thank you all for the thoughtful suggestions, especially the one that solved my problem!

As I said in my last post, removing the rear pad allowed the front of the engine to come up so the crankshaft was better aligned with the hole for the hand crank and I was able to lower the radiator and its shell. Should I be concerned that the two fingers at the back of the transmission, actually the universal joint housing, now rest on the frame crossmember? I.e. should I now have some sort of pad back there, although smaller, to prevent vibration coming through to the frame & body? Or just forget about it?

Remove it. It is not necessary and without any pad will transfer engine vibration to the frame. There is also the chance that you could break one of the castings at the universal joint if you hit a bump with your car.

If the yoke is touching,or close to touching that crossmember then it will need to come off.The frame has sagged over the years at the rear motor mounts, and the rest of the car kind of aclimates to the slow proccession of the sag over the years.

Keith, The yoke (not the crossmember - an ambiguity of the English language) will have to come off? I do not understand your suggestion.

It's that add-on piece that you put the rubber under, between it and the crossmember. It's held on by the two bolts on the ends of the clamshells. If it doesn't have the clearance between it and the crossmember for the rubber to fit without lifting the rear of the trans, then something else is bent somewhere. That is not a Ford part, and can't be used with even a slightly bent frame. There is a theoretical reason for it being there, but with the roads and use the A's get now,I've never seen a problem without it.My uncle parked his 30 in 1954,it had floaters but that part was under the seat.I've driven the truck 56000 miles since I got it,still without it,with no problems.I have gone through a couple of sets of rubbers though.
