Flathead temperature gauges

If you want to read temp from both banks how are you doing it ? Use two gauges ? But most kits only have one (quad) can you use a toggle switch between senders? This will be in a 37 with an 8BA .Zeke

I use a toggle switch. I find that there is about a 5 degree difference between the sides. Can't remember right now which one runs higher.

2 gauges on my av8, sw, left bank white face guage, right bank black face guage. the right one on mine runs about 5 degrees hotter:)

I have guage in one side and a vintage Moon mechanical screw in on the other. Of course got to open hood to read that one. But my Inst and Control retiree friend put thermcouples on each time with readout in the front seat for a couple of days and my banks track and read not that far apart.

I use 2 Stewart Warner mechanical gauges, they run pretty much the same... The thermostats sometimes dance around a bit, but the engine mostly hangs at the set point of the stats... 180 degrees...

The stock gauge on the 37 is a mechanical gauge with a capillary tube --do not cut it ---perhaps a second gauge can be taken apart and the indicator placed next to the original one and the slot in the face opened a little.

With the later electric gauges another sender can be used and a switch installed, on my 46 car and truck I had there is a switch in the other head, when the temp opened the switch the gauge went full hot ---

I use the mechanical guage on my 36 for the right side and an electrical guage for the left side.

I use (2) white faced Sunpro temp gauges - one on either side of the original speedo. (I can see them better at night) Right side seems to run a little hotter but I need to change to 180* thermostats. My engines seems to run cool.

Just to jump in and say thanks as well.
Good question Zeke...PA as I was wondering the same thing.

I had planned on two gauges and two send units and now see that's what a lot of you folks use.

I misquoted. I use a sender in each head, a toggle switch and one gauge. Works well.

I used a regular sender in each head and ran the wires through a toggle switch to the gauge. Neat and clean.

41 PU 8BA This approach is a little different. I use two senders,a toggle (SPDT), and an electric Stewart Warner 280 degree gauge. One sender is in the passenger side head. The other is in the driver side water pump. I needed the head on the driver side for the SPAL fan controller. That way I can monitor the temp drop across the radiator.:D
