flathead fuel pump push rod

first startup of my rebuilt 8ba ...i had to gravity feed the fuel...the push rod does not move up at all.its as though the lobe is not on the cam...brand new isky 77b....can the cam bearing be insalled as to block the rod ?

Maybe the large hole in the rear bearing is not lined up with the bushing above it. I found this out as I disassembled mine for rebuild.
The previous owner did a rebuild and when he couldn't put the rod down, he must have just knocked it down and it bent the edge of the bearing into the gap between the two rear journals. It worked but I had a hard time pulling the cam out for my rebuild.
You may be able to look down thru the bushing and see the problem?

thanks... its somthing along that line of thinking... hate to have to pull it apart .the motor sounds so good ..maybe i can get to the bearing from the rear cam cover?

All you will be able to do is tap the bearing further inwards with another bearing as a punch, not rotate it or pull it out.

well that sucks ... what you are saying makes a lot of sense as to the problem ...you have me on the right track... will have to look into it and let you know how it turns out...thank you for the help

just looked down the hole ..the bearing is to far rearward by about a10th of an inch.do you think i can pull the trans and flywheel get to the rear cover and press it in ?

After you remove the idler gear between the rear end of the cam and the oil pump, you can see the entire edge of the bearing in the bore. If you carefully place an old bearing on the existing bearing, edge to edge, you could tap it forward if you're careful.
I would place something solid over the old bearing to spread the force of the tapping. If it was mine I would try this before removing the cam, lifters, etc. because you would still have to pull trans, flywheel and rear cover.

We may be getting the cart before the horse here. Need to determine what the problem actual is first. It is most likely the cam bearing being in the wrong position, but that needs to be verified.

it has been verified ,,the bearing is to far foward by about a 10th of an inch

As 40 said....its best to verify where the bearing actually is, and I'm also wondering if it's the bearing that's actually preventing the fuel pump pushrod from moving up and down in the first place?

i think so , i can see the edge of the bearing .it wont allow the rod to drop down contact the cam lobe ..

I know I posted earlier but this seems like the type of problem that will only get worse if you try to enlarge or move the cam bearing without disassembly.

i think i got it ...i ground down an extra rod and worked it in and around ...the bearing was just over lapping about a10th inch...the good rod fits and hits the lobe and goes up and down ...going back together now .. find out soon...thanks all
